Advantages: Perfect solution for an age old problem
Disadvantages: Price
It is very rare that on watching Dragon's den I see a product I think is actually worth an investment, let alone something I would then go on to seek out and buy, but Tipsy feet was one of them. However, when the two girls asked for their investment from the Dragons they were turned down! What a mistake. I was so annoyed at these dragons for not investing in such a great idea and was worried that this might have disillusioned the girls and that I wasn't going to be able to get the product anywhere. But I need not have feared as I wasn't the only one who thought Tipsy Feet were a necessity for a night out or after a long day on your feet!
The Idea behind the Product
The episode of Dragons Den aired on November 5th 2007. Series 5 episode 4 and can be found on youtube using this link. It is about 4min20secs into the clip:- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b20GC8W3XPU&fea ture=related
Two truly inspired girls solve an age old problem. Have you ever been on a great night out, wearing a killer pair of heels? They looked so great when you were getting ready. They looked stunning on the dance floor but now... you are in absolute agony, can barely totter around because your feet are burning and you simply must take them off!! But how can you? You are in a public place, most likely a club or bar, which will no doubt have sticky floors or could have broken glass around. Not only that but what will you then do with your heels? And what if you want to get back on the dancefloor because you simply are having too much fun to let your feet ruin your night? This is where tipsy feet can save you. They are "Designed to save your soles".
The Product
Two little pumps (ballet style shoes) fold neatly into a "purse" that is 17.5cm x 11cm. The purse is the same colour as the shoes so its co-ordinated. The purse is small enough to pop into a little bag on your night out or during your working day, alongside your lipstick, money and mobile. Now you're ready and prepared in case those 5 inch heels get the better of you. So at around 1am, when you're starting to feel the pain all you do is whip out you're stylish little purse and take out the shoes. Unfold them and give your feet a quick soothing rub (for extra dramatic effect ;) ) and slip on your pumps. If you're worried about co-ordinating them with your outfit, they come in Black, Gold, Pink or Silver. 4 colours that will basically work well with any outfit. The pumps are very simple, they are made of a soft material with a "soft leather" effect. The soles are quite thin, so these are not designed to be worn day in day out. They come in three sizes. Small (3-4), Medium (5-6) and Large (7-8), they have an elasticated heel, and this helps when they fold up. The inside of the shoe is made out of the same material as the lining of the purse. Now this is where the magic happens. What happens to your heels? Your beautiful shiny heels? Never fear! The purse that a minute ago held your "saving soles" now opens up into a fashionable bag. The bag is big enough to fit in any heels and most boots. You are then free to sling it over your shoulder, even putting your original bag inside it, so you're only carrying one bag. Now you can get back on the dancefloor, comfortable and safe, with still a great pair of shoes on. The only thing you'll need to worry about will be the looks of hate from the other girls who are in agonising pain from their shoes!
Use of the Product
I've used tipsy feet a few times now and find them very comfortable and a total lifesaver. They may feel a bit weird for a couple of minutes after taking off your heels because your feet arch will need to adjust to being flat again, but you would get that if you were barefoot too. There really is nothing better than taking off a painful pair of shoes but I know I was always hesitant to do so, knowing I would then have bare feet. (although I have walked through Nottingham bare feet more than a couple of times. Needless to say before I discovered Tipsy feet) I went out last night and actually started off wearing the shoes. I have the silver pair and needed silver shoes for my outfit and so I just slipped these on and they were great throughout the night. (Although I would add that you should not run in them! I was doing a campus bar crawl with time limits and it involved a fair bit of running and as there is little padding on the soles it was a little painful, but how often are you going to be running around after drinking?)
Price and Availability
Now I was a little shocked at the price of these. But they are well worth it. They come in at a standard £19.95 and can be brought from amazon among other online retailers. But considering you are buying a pair of shoes and a bag the price isn't actually bad.
If you are unwilling to pay this amount then I'm sure you could easily replicate the idea yourself, especially now that fold up "carrier bags" are regularly available. All you need is a pair of versatile pumps small enough to fit in a bag. But the great thing about buying the tipsy feet product is the great design and co-ordination of the whole set.
Think of it as a health and safety issue ;) if you are on a night out and have had a bit too much to drink then wearing massive heels is a bad idea, as it wont take much to go over on your ankle, these will prevent this happening lol.
I love my tipsy feet and was so happy that the product designers didn't give up after the silly dragons turned them down for an investment. So what are you waiting for? Go and save your soles!
Summary: My feet love me for them

- 20/03/09 I hate my feet as they hurt when I wear heels and they hurt when I wear flat shoes, so these wouldn't be any good for me!
Great review though! |
