Advantages: One for one concept. Good look. Loads of designs.

Disadvantages: Not comfortable. Dye rubbed off on feet.

I have one pair of Toms Classic shoes which I bought before my last holiday as I wanted something to slop around in. I was also drawn to the colours that were available as I like being able to pick something bright and fun, especially when its something that I'm planning to wear on holiday. They cost me £34.99 which is actually more than I expected to pay for them because they are, after all, just canvas shoes, but I guess you're paying for the name and the fact that people will buy them at this price - as I did! I do like the "one for one" idea though that this company set up whereby they will give one needy child a pair of shoes for every pair of shoes bought.

There are literally loads of colours and patterns to choose from - too many to really go into in the scope of this review (but you can have a look at them at www.toms.com/womens). The scope of colours and designs is definitely a real draw because I'm sure that everyone would find a style that suited them. The Toms I have are just plain canvas ones and they are a lovely deep pillar box red colour.

The shoes are a nice simple style, nothing flashing or unique really, but just a nice simple design. The upper part of the shoe is made from canvas, which feels durable - and indeed having worn them I can attest is durable. The sole of the show is made from a thin rubbery material which also makes the shoe durable. There is no other design on them apart from a small Toms label on the side of the shoe and on the back of the shoe. There is a small V-shape which is on the shoe which would fit over the top part of your foot to allow for flexibility in width and for when moving.

All in all, my first impressions were really good. However, I was a little disappointed when I came to wear them because I simply didn't find them as comfortable as I believed they would be. While they were initially very comfortable when I put them on, after walking around in them for an hour or so, I found that the back of the shoe really rubbed on my heel - and my heel got very sore very quickly. I also found that the shoe was quite tight across the top of my foot and after a while this started to rub and dig in also. It ended up that I would push the back of the heel down and use them like moccasins, but equally this wasn't very comfortable either because the shoes were not designed to be worn in this way. In addition to this, when I took the shoes off, I was left sometimes with red on my feet where the dye had rubbed off on my feet and while it did come off really easily, I just didn't think this was a mark of quality.

Overall, while I like the look and the concept of these shoes, I didn't find them to be very comfortable and so I will not be buying any more in the future.

Summary: Just not comfy enough for my delicate feet!
