I am guilty of wearing flimsy shoes as I am a dress and skirt kind of girl, but when the weather took a turn for the worse, it was necessary to invest in a pair of boots. I looked deliberately for the Chelsea boot style as this can be worn with skirts rather than just jeans and fit into the current trends.
It was incredibly difficult as I was on a limited budget (there were some I would have loved to have bought over the £100 mark) and had a specific item in mind. Now I found these in black and they were perfect. However, they weren't available in my size, 6. Out of curiosity, I asked to try them in a 5; I am not a half size and have always been a 6 in Topshop shoes. They were snug, but I wouldn't have bought them if I didn't feel I would be comfortable wearing them. I am glad I did as the leather has stretched so I fit in them comfortably, I do just wear them with tights, not thick socks so this may be something to be aware of. The heels are a perfect size, but I am aware of my calves aching slightly the next day after wearing them around University. They can be dressed up or down, and are a real staple piece to an outfit. Topshop boots have always been durable to be in the past and will go there as my first option for years to come after the value of these.
These boots are amazing! I love them so much that I have them in both colours and I practically live in them! They're a perfect 'casual' pair of boots but they still look really nice and they make an outfit look a lot more put together.
I managed to get my black pair in Topshop's summer sale for £60.00 which I was incredibly pleased with and I paid the full price for my taupe ones - £75.00 which seems quite expensive I know but they really are worth every penny. Unlike some of Topshop's shoes and boots the quality does match the price - they feel and look expensive and they're very durable. I've had my taupe pair for around four months and they still look great and I've had my black pair for around a month and they look almost new. These are quite similar to the Ambush boots which I already have. The only difference is that these have elasticated sides rather than zipped sides and the taupe ones look slightly more 'grungey cowgirl' rather than just 'cowgirl' because of the (very subtle) distressed detailing.
The heel is around the same size as the ambush boots and I find this heel size the perfect size - it gives me an extra boost and brings me up to nearly 5'7 (I'm around 5'3 and a half) but they're still comfortable to walk in and to be honest they're just as comfy and 'sturdy' feeling as flat boots. The block heel is very strong and it doesn't feel 'stuck on' to the bottom of the boots. The heel's wooden effect is nice and it's unusual for a pair of autumn/winter boots to have this style heel - they're normally a plain rubbery material so this makes a nice change! The boots come just above my ankle and they're quite short which means that they make my legs look a little longer. I find that boots that come half way up my calf can make my legs look short and stubby but these only cover the ankle area. The design is quite simple and they remind me a little of doc martens for some reason but they're much more girly, versatile and lightweight.
The leg holes are just the right size - I have really skinny ankles so I always worry that boots that are loose around my ankles will look silly and feel unsecure but these fit nicely - there's plenty of room but they still feel secure and they don't flap around or rub against my legs/ankles when I walk. The elasticated sides makes them quick and easy to put on and take off and I love the little 'tag' detailing on the back as this adds a little extra detail. The boots are really versatile and they can be worn during any season, although I definitely wouldn't wear them in snowy or icy weather as the sole grips aren't that strong. I wore my taupe pair most often during the summer as they look amazing with a maxi skirt, high waisted shorts or knicker shorts and the black pair look nice with leggings and skinnies - especially acid wash skinnies with layered socks showing. Both colours are versatile.
It is worth mentioning though that the taupe pair is a lot darker than it appears on the Topshop website product picture but it is a really lovely colour which is like a really light chocolate brown colour - it's gorgeous! The black pair is obviously very dark and because of this I initially worried that they would pick up dirt easily and become more noticeably worn/creased, but they are durable and still look great. They're easy to clean when they do get a bit grubby and I find that a damp cloth removes any dry bits of mud etc. Mine very rarely get dirty though as I wear mine mainly indoors eg the shopping centre, cinema, supermarket and so on. I've noticed that when I'm walking on pavement or hard flooring they do click quite loudly but this can't be helped and it doesn't make me feel too self concious.
The material is 100 percent leather - it's very strong, thick and smooth to the touch. As a Vegan I do try to steer away from leather but as it is just a by-product from the meat industry I don't feel too guilty wearing it. The leather isn't stiff and the boots didn't need breaking in. Comfort wise, these are amazing. It feels almost like I'm walking around in pumps as the heel is so sturdy and although it is only a slight heel it does make a difference. They are comfortable and versatile enough to wear everyday and despite being casual they still look like I've made an effort with my outfit. The sole is nice and thick and I love the stitch detailing between the bottom of the boots and the sole. Size wise, I have these in a size six. I am usually a size five but found the size 5 a little too tight, especialy when worn with socks. The size six is a good fit and I usually wear thick socks with them. They are quite narrow which I initially found uncomfortable but over time the shoe has kind of adjusted to the size of my feet slightly and I find them comfortable and easy to walk in.
Overall, I highly recommend these boots. They're great value for money, durable and easy to walk in. Styling them is easy and the heel is the perfect size for a casual pair of boots
