“ Brand: Topshop / Type: Pumps „
Last weekend I attended a wedding for one of my best friend's and was given the wonderful job of being maid of honour. I was able to have a different dress than the other bridesmaids in a slightly different shade of mauve or aubergine and was given a budget to buy shoes. My friend had an all day and all night wedding which meant me being on my feet all day so as much as I loved my new gorgeous bridesmaid shoes (review to come shortly) I knew that by around 5pm my feet would be aching and I would need a flat pair of shoes.
For the after dinner events the bridesmaids and myself all changed out of our lovely dresses and into our own wedding outfits which were a lot more comfortable. To save my feet the agony I invested in a lovely pair of flat shoes which I had bought in Topshop at the beginning of the year especially for the event as they really seemed to suit my outfit and I needed a pair of flat shoes which although casual were smart enough to wear to a wedding.
The pair I decided on are called Marla by Topshop and I found them online whilst quickly browsing. The reason for choosing them apart from the fact that I liked them was the flower, corsage detail as it matched my wonderful pair of heels I had bought to go with my maid of honour dress. Marla are a gorgeous nude shade with a touch of pink - they are classed as taupe but when you see them in store they are more of a nude colour.
I didn't wear these shoes before the wedding which was a bit silly as I didn't want my feet rubbed so I did take some heel protectors with me just in case! Marla are made from leather pigskin and are incredibly soft to the touch both inside the shoe and the outside. The inside of the shoe has a slight suede feel to it which is lovely and smooth. My main concern when I finally put them on was the rubbing but after a few hours (the wedding finally ended around 3am) I noticed that they hadn't rubbed me in the slightest but I did find that the strap which goes around the ankle needed to be tightened.
Marla's main detail is the lovely large leather flower place on the front of the shoe. The flower is made of the same material as the shoes and is the same colour. The petals are large and rounded but this does mean that they may be prone to curling slightly when they have been worn a lot. Marla are a t-bar style of shoe and the t-bar (again same leather and colour as the shoes) is incredibly delicate as the strap around the ankle and up the front of the foot are incredibly thin so do be careful when doing the ankle strap up. It is adjustable with a small little buckle. This ankle strap will loosen so don't do it up too tight when adjusting. The t-bar doesn't offer any form of support for the foot as it is just too narrow but it adds a cute effect to the shoes.
These shoes are perfectly flat, there is no slight incline in them whatsoever so for people who need a little support to the arch of the foot these will be completely unsuitable and they have no padding so won't offer any extra comfort should you need it. The shoes however are incredibly comfortable as the leather is so soft to begin with. Although the leather does loosen quickly it doesn't loosen up too much where you loose the shape of the shoe. They are more of a smart flat shoe and because of the delicate detailing of the flower and the t-bar they shouldn't be abused and should be worn carefully.
These shoes looked great with my wedding outfit and really added an extra bit of detail because of the large flower. Definitely a pair of shoes which can be worn to an event like a wedding or a christening as well as general wear. I can't really fault these shoes whatsoever, they didn't rub, didn't gape and the leather softened easily.
Marla Flower T-Bar shoes are available from Topshop both in store and online. They only come in one colour, taupe, and come in sizes 3 to 8. They currently cost £28.00 which is a great price for such a gorgeous pair of flat shoes. If you have an event coming up and don't want to wear a pair of heels then I would definitely recommend these!
