Topshop Molton Leather Ballet Pumps
Disadvantages: Stretch and they gape
Despite my collection of high heels I do have a decent range of flat shoes as sometimes they are far easier and much more comfortable to wear than a pair of heels. I buy from a range of brands although I do have my favourites one brand I do like is Topshop. Not all my shoe purchases have been positive from Topshop but I do find overall that they make great shoes and some of my pairs have lasted for quite a few years.
A few months ago I was wanting to replace my rather used and battered pair of black ballet pumps which were actually a Topshop pair which I bought about two years ago. So I naturally went back to Topshop to see if I could replace them and fortunately I was able to at just £25! The pair I bought are called Molton Leather Ballet Pumps and are of course black. I found £25.00 very reasonable for a pair of leather shoes so picked up my size and bought them!
The shoes are the ballet pump style so feature a lovely found toe with a thin thread at the front which can be tied in a bow. They are black in colour and the upper part of the shoe is made of leather and is bound with black material to finish the shoe off. The inside of the shoe has a pale beige lining which really contrasts nicely against the black leather.
The sole of the shoe is made from quite a durable material, harder than rubber which is nice but I find that the heel will wear down quite quickly. The shoes are completely flat so if you do need a bit of support for the arch of your foot then these won't really be suitable as they are not the most supportive pair of shoes available.
I've had my pair for a few months now and have been worn regularly. I find that size wise I am really a 5 ½ but opt for a 6 in Topshop as I find that they give me a little more room than a 5. I tried them on in store and was perfectly happy with the fit but I did expect them to give a little being made of leather so knew they would stretch somewhat. The one thing I find with them that despite being made of leather they don't look like decent leather in fact the slight shine to the shoes make them look just a little cheap compared to more expensive leather shoes I own.
The first time wearing them was perfectly pain free and they were perfectly comfortable. They have no padding in the footbed of the shoes so your feet do feel quite flat against the floor which sounds odd but you have no support whatsoever in the shoes but for me I find them ok for wearing for a few hours but I think if you wore them for quite a long time your feet may start to ache.
Few months down the line the shoes are still going perfectly strong as I expected and the leather has stretched a little which was expected but it has made the shoes gape just a little at the sides of my feet which loosened up the shoes around my feet so they didn't feel as secure as they did when I first bought them which has meant that sometimes they can slip off my feet which is quite frustrating especially when going up and down stairs.
The leather isn't the best quality but then for £25.00 I wouldn't expect it to be it is just a shame that they have stretched just a little too much. However, they have remained comfortable and haven't rubbed my feet whatsoever which is a plus point. They are a useful pair of black ballet pumps but can't help feel a little disappointed that they have started gaping.
I really like these ballet pumps and for £25.00 I really can't moan too much about them as they have served a purpose I just would have liked the leather to have been a bit more rigid so that they didn't gape but they are incredibly comfortable so can't moan too much. However, for that reason I can only give them 4 stars.
