I usually buy the really cheap basic pumps from primark whenever I need a new pair but when I saw these in the topshop sale I decided to buy them as although they're really basic in appearance they seemed much better quality and the sole is nice and thick too.

I paid £4.00 for these which I was really pleased with and I was going to get a few more pairs but there was only one pair left in my size unfortunately! The retail price for these is £16.00 which I think initially seems quite expensive, but in my opinion they're good value for money. I've had my pair of these for over two months now and they still look great - they don't look at all worn or grubby and I would rather pay £16 for a good quality pair of pumps rather than buy lots of cheap rubbish quality pumps as it saves money in the long term.

The design of these is very basic and they're simple, generic pumps. They have thick rubber soles and a cotton upper which is a canvas type of material. The material is very thick and it keeps my feet warm but the shoes are still lightweight. I find that a lot of pumps can look quite bulked out when worn with socks underneath but these don't which is probably because the material isn't as stiff as some pumps, it is really soft and it feels like the shoes kind of adjust to my feet if that makes sense - they're really comfortable.

The pumps are only available in one colour which in my opinion seems a bit silly and I think it'd be nice if there was a wider choice available. The pumps are dark navy with navy laces. The laces are good quality and easy to tie and unknot. I usually prefer my pumps to have a contrast sole and contrast laces as this is more fashionable than plain pumps in my opinion but as I wear these mainly to go to the gym it doesn't really matter how fashionable they are.

I personally don't think that these look right when worn with skinny jeans as they're really basic and boring and I wear mine with plain leggings or jogging bottoms. In my opinion these are best suited to wear for exercise and I wear mine mainly to the gym. I will also usually stick these on if I'm popping my dogs out for a walk or nipping to the shop and can't be bothered to make an effort.

Because these are a dark colour they do pick up mud etc easily which is why I try to mainly wear them indoors. On the few occasions that they have gotten a little muddy I just waited until the mud dried then scraped it off and no prominent stains or marks were left behind. Despite being made from a cotton/canvas type material these don't get soaking wet when it rains which I was pleasantly surprised by.

The grips on the sole are sturdy and just as good as my trainers which is good as I know that they won't be slippery on the treadmill etc. Size wise, I got my usual size five and they are well fitting and although I have quite wide feet they don't feel too narrow and they don't squash my feet. I am easily able to fit a pair of socks on underneath which is good as I wasn't ale to with my previous pair of pumps - I think the quality definitely shows and I think that overall these are good value for money.

I highly recommend these pumps - they're comfortable and good quality. I give them five out of five stars.
