Advantages: Comfy, stylish
Disadvantages: Expensive
For comfort, style and wearability, yes the Ugg Boot is my footwear of choice.
Ugg Boots are the footwear phenomenon from Australia, the sheepskin boot popular with Hollywood stars and Australia surfers alike. In fact, when it was first produced, over 165 years ago, they were made with surfers in mind, for comfort and warmth after spending hours waiting in the cold sea for a wave.
I do have to admit that when I first saw them I hated the look of them. A friend of mine had a pair before they became popular and I remember thinking she looked really silly in them and that I would never buy a pair. Fast forward a few years and inevitably I now own three wonderful pairs.
In terms of warmth and comfort you cannot go wrong with these. Like I said they are made with sheepskin which is incredibly soft. The boots are made with a soft sheepskin suede on the outside and shearling lining in the interior. The lining on the inside allows you to wear these boots without socks which is nice because this lining will keep your feet nice and warm without socks. I do sometimes wear socks though if it is extremely cold outside, however the lining is said to keep you warm when it is cold outside and regulate your temperature when it is a bit warmer out.
The front part of the boots where your toes are is very wide so these boots really do work for people of all shoe sizes, especially for people with wide feet who have problems fitting into regular boots.
The back of the boots feature a stitched on label that says Ugg's to show you that you have the original footwear. There are quite a lot of copies out on the market today and although these are considerably cheaper I find they do not wear as well and the backs break down quite easily. Ugg's do last for a long long time if you look after them. I have had my first pair for over 6 years now and they are still going strong! I recommend getting the Ugg protector spray when you first buy a pair as it does keep them clean and easy to clean when you have to brush off any dirt you may get on them.
The heel and bottom of an Ugg boot is made of a lightweight, synthetic sole which is very hard wearing and does not wear down easily.
Ugg comes in a variety of sizes and colours. There are the classic tall which have a bit higher of an upper part of the boot. These are nice because you can fold them over, exposing the lining for a bit of a different look. Then there are the classic short which like the name suggests are a bit shorter. All in all they have about over 40 different styles of boots so you can really find something for every occasion and ones that you personally really like.
The colours are great too and you can really mix and match to make sure your outfit is coordinated. They have what I like to call the earthy colours such as sand, chocolate, grey, black etc and then they also have fun colours such as pink and blue.
A visit to their website is well worth it to view all the ranges available and all the other products they offer such as children's products, gloves, slippers, handbags and many many more. Their website can be found at http://www.uggaustralia.com/index.aspx.
They also sell their boots in some shops such as Jones the Bootmaker, Selfridges and House of Fraser. Just recently they opened their first UK standalone store in the new London White City Fairfield Mall. Apparently when it first opened there was a one in, one out policy on the door and some people were queuing up for hours to get in. They then opened a store in Covent Garden which is small but worth a visit.
Yes, the boots are expensive but like I've said above do last for a very long time and combined with the comfort and style in my opinion are well worth the money. A classic tall pair are likely to set you back about £170 and a classic short about £130 and then the prices vary on what type you buy.

- 07/02/09 There may be a temporary lack of stock - I think I read the other day that the UK importers had succumbed to the economic gloom and gone out of business, but you can't keep a good UGG down, especially in this weather. |
