Advantages: Comfy and warm

Disadvantages: Price, not the most aesthetically pleasing of footwear

I'm a high heel girl at heart (and feet). It's normal for my work colleagues to gasp as I totter into the office in 5 inch high heels, I just love shoes the higher the better, I had at least 40 pairs of high heeled shoes in my wardrobe, I do have a few pairs of flat shoes (for driving and also trainers for going to the gym) but I rarely buy a new pair of flats. So when I first saw UGG boots about 3 years ago I just thought "ergh, no way am I ever putting ugly things like those on my feet" and wondered what all the fuss was about as they looked hideous. One of my friends had just bought a pair and told me to try them on, after coaxing me to try on her new UGGS she literally had to coax me out of them again. I was converted and three years I'm a proud owner of three pairs of UGGs.

~~~History of UGG's~~~
The UGG style boots originated from Australia. Australian farmers would wear sheepskin lined UGG style boots to keep their feet warm and dry when working in the fields.
UGG boots were also popular with WW1 & WW2 aviators who wore UGG style boots to keep their feet warm at high altitudes
The boots became popular in the 1970's with surfers after being in the water and walking back from the beach. Sheepskin style boots protected their feet. The UGG brand originally was aimed at surfers and then expanded into the US market.
UGG boots are made from merino sheepskin and on the outside is suede.
~~~Price~~~

The price of a genuine pair of UGG boots is a big disadvantage as they are very expensive.

For the most popular pair of Classic Tall UGG Boots these are priced at £180. The short UGG boots cost £130 . UGG now offer a variety of styles for example the knitted longer length boot which cost around £110.

If you shop around then you maybe able to find a good deal. Asos.com often has 20% off UGG boots on their site. My advice would be t try and buy UGG's out of season. Purchasing UGG's between October and December is the hardest time to buy as many people buy as Christmas presents so availability of the more popular styles and sizes is low thus why many retailers up prices as they know the boots are in demand. Towards the end of 2007 some stores even had a four month waiting list for the Classic Tall UGG Boots, despite the price!

A slightly cheaper alternative to UGG boots are JUST Sheepskin boots. These look identical to a pair of UGG boots and are the only sheepskin boots that I have found to be as good quality. A tall pair of sheepskin boots from JUST SHEEPSKIN cost £90 so are expensive but not as expensive as a pair of UGG's which sell their tall boots at £180.

Cheaper imitations are available of UGG boots but they are not the same quality wise. The sheepskin (or synthetic sheepskin) inside just is not as soft or thick and the boots do not last half as long.

~~~Wearing UGG's ~~~~
As I have already mentioned that UGG's are not the most aesthetically pleasing footwear that you could put on your feet. I have been asked on a regular basis what on earth am I wearing on my feet and why am I not wearing my famous 5 inch heels. Many women agree UGG's are not nice to look at but it's men that seem to take a real dislike to how they look I have found. Mr Lools particularly hates my UGG boots and calls them my UGGly boots. Some of the other comments that I have had when wearing UGG boots are "Why are you wearing slippers" and "What on earth are those on your feet they look like giant Yorkshire Puddings". Personally I have grown to like (to a point anyway) my UGG boots.
I usually tuck my jeans into my UGG's as I feel the boots look far better this way or wear with leggings. I once tried to put a pair of jeans over my UGGS and the look is not good... I thought the way the jeans hung made me look like I had ankles larger than my nanna's (and she has HUGE ankles bless her).
I have the Classic Long and the Shorter version. I also have the knitted UGG boots. My knitted UGG boots look better with my leggings as they are less bulky and so my feet do not look so large against my matchstick legs in leggings (the words of my dad!).
Despite the fact UGG's are rather bulky and do not look the greatest I can't describe how comfy they are. When I first got my UGG boots it was very much like walking on air it was so spongy and soft!
On icey cold days my toes stay lovely and toasty. I have poor circulation and I always have cold feet, Mr Lools actually believes dead bodies have warmer feet than me. When wearing my UGGs with a thin pair of socks my feet warm up to a temperature that could be considered as normal.
You can buy special products to remove stains off UGGs. As the lighter UGG's do get mud and some stains on them. I have had my sand coloured UGG boots 3 years now and they are still in good condition. I once spent a day at London Zoo and it rained all day. I was wearing my UGGs and out in the rain for 3 hours and the rain was very heavy. It was only about 10 minutes before I got back to my hotel in London that my feet started feeling wet! MY UGGS were completely soaked but when they dried there were no watermarks on the suede but they did look slightly more worn . I would not advice getting the boots wet where possible as this does spoil the condition of them.
~~~The future of UGG's~~~~

Since UGG's became popular the styles and colours available have expanded. The knitted pairs of UGG's are now available in a multitude of colours including bright coral pink and bright blue, in order to break into the "spring" fashion wardrobe. I'm not a fan of these colours and prefer the neutral shades of UGG's but if it's a chilly summer like we had last year then I can't rule out that I will just wear my UGG's during the winter months

UGG's are now becoming increasingly popular for men. Leonardo Di Caprio was seen sporting a pair a few months back and I was shopping in Newcastle last week and seen a guy wearing a pair of UGG's. I can't see the UGG trend catching on with Mr Lools anytime into the near distant future... but if it does then watch this space , I'm sure I will let everyone on Dooyoo know when he does!

Summary: Really comfy flat boots, quite expensive
