Advantages: Very warm, good quality materials

Disadvantages: Flat, inflexible soles

When I first noticed people wearing Ugg boots a few years ago, I know I was not alone in thinking that they were very ugly indeed. However, I also remember feeling that they looked very comfy and warm. Then I heard the price (£180) for a Classic Tall and I "knew" I'd never buy a pair.
A few years and a cheap version of black Ugg-style boots (which collapsed at the heel within days) later, I found myself in a beautiful boutique, drooling over the most gorgeous grey Argyle Sweater Ugg boots. I tried them on and my feet felt enveloped and cosseted in lovely warm, fluffy soft sheep's wool and my calves were wrapped in two warm woolly jumpers. I was converted. I bought them for £140. Yes, I really did.
Things started to go a bit wrong when I got them out of the shop and began wearing them out and about. They were still wonderfully warm and comfy when sitting down, but I don't drive and I walk a lot every day. I have a very narrow heel and many shoes and boots don't support my heel, which doesn't feel very good. That was the first problem with my Uggs. Secondly, I can't seem to walk properly in them for very long. I have realized I really don't like flat soles, especially inflexible ones like these. I persevered for a few days, wearing them around the town and, despite all the admiring looks and comments I received from friend and passers-by, I have had to stop wearing them altogether. Both the backs and fronts of my calves were so painful, I felt like I'd been sprinting barefoot on concrete for hours. I rubbed and massaged my calves and went back to my old trainers!

I haven't read or heard about anyone else experiencing this problem, so perhaps it's just me and my funny little feet. I still love the warmth and the look of my Argle Sweater Uggs, but I think I will have to just wear them for a few hours at a time, when I know I'm not going to be pounding the streets.
I am a bit cross that I spent so much money on boots that I should be wearing regularly, given that they are so warm and my feet get so cold in winter.
As for the quality of the materials and the warmth of the boot, I really can't fault them.

Summary: Great for a short time, but not for walking for long periods

Flat, inflexible soles like those do not make for day-long, comfortable footwear. I suspect anyone paying that outrageous price for them would be too embarrased to admit their discomfort.
Well done for being open about them.
Excellent review.
