Advantages: sooooo comfy! look great!
Disadvantages: you'll never go back to fake ones
I had been looking at Ugg boots for about a year before I got mine, every time I winced at the price and thought nothing can be that good to justify paying £100+ for. I went through several pairs of imitation Uggs which were ok for the first few weeks but I found that after a while the foot part started falling over the side of the sole of the boot so that you were left walking awkwardly. When I started looking at other people wearing them I noticed that I wasn't the only person who seemed to have that problem. That's when I started to look more closely at getting myself a pair of real Uggs as I never saw anyone with genuine Uggs having this issue.
I thought about it for a while and was trying to decide if it was better to just keep forking out £20ish for fake ones, or pay out for real ones in the hope that they would really last. I ummmmed and arrrred for ages about it but my mind was finally made up the day I saw my first pair of knitted Uggs - I fell in love and the decision was made... I NEEDED a pair of those!
~Appearance ~
The boots are made from a chunky knitted material (I think wool), I chose the black ones but they come in a range of colours including pink, brown and grey (which I also really love). They have 3 nice heavy duty buttons on the side of the boot with 'Ugg' printed on them, the buttons are a bit like a cufflink design in that they have a smaller button attached to the other side. The buttons fasten the top third of the boots and can be fastened in different ways. The sole of the boot is also quite heavy duty and match the chosen colour of the boot, with a decent grip on the bottom. There is also a reinforced heel part made from a suede type material, similar to the shape of the heel part of a sock.
~ How to wear them~
I thought that one of the nice things about these boots is that they can be worn in different ways, more versatile that the original Ugg boots. They can be worn full length and pulled up, if worn this way on me they come to just bellow my knee (I am only 5'2'' though). They can also be fastened the same way but pushed down so that they are a more traditional Ugg boot length, they sort of slouch down when you do this which is a look I like. They can also be folded and buttoned in 2 ways so that they are shorter, sitting just above the ankle. When folded you can either fasten them so that that large side of the button is showing, or the small side. When the small side is showing then the boot sits flatter to the leg but you miss out on seeing the great larger buttons.
I love wearing my Uggs pushed down with a denim skirt and thick tights. They also look great over skinny jeans. These boots are pretty much great to put on with any casual outfit though.
~Comfort~
These boots are, without a doubt, the most comfortable footwear I own, even more comfy than my slippers! I must admit that they took me a little while to get used to though. I wondered at first if I had got my sizing wrong and had got a pair that was too big for me. I felt a bit like they were slipping at the heal. However as I've worn them more I have got used to it. Other people I have spoken to have also found this. I don't think that it was me getting the wrong size, I think it's just the way they fit, if I'd got a smaller size I think they would have been too tight elsewhere. This really hasn't been a problem though and I have got used to it. They have never rubbed and took no wearing in before they felt comfortable.
The cosy sheepskin lining is heavenly; it doesn't run all the way to the top of the boot like the original Uggs, in the knitted boot the sheepskin in just in the foot part. Its sooo cosy and comfy, I have never had cold feet even on the coldest of days. These boots look warm and are warm but I have found that they are surprisingly never too hot. I don't know if that is because they are lined and mostly made of natural products but I have never had problems with sweaty feet and to add too much information... they don't smell either.
~ How have they stood up? ~
VERY well! I have worn and worn these boots. I have had them just under a year now and wear them at every opportunity. They stood up to long Christmas shopping trips and even a holiday to Bruges where we walked miles. Nothing is too much for these boots. The information that comes with the boots say that they will wear like a favourite knitted jumper - that they may stretch and bobble a bit, but actually mine really haven't. They look as good as new. I have never worn them in very wet weather but I have certainly worn them when its damp out and this doesn't seem to have affected them either. The heel of the boot has stayed firmly on top of the sole and the sole has worn slightly but not as much as I had expected considering it is made from a fairly soft material, it still has plenty of grip.
~ Conclusion ~
I love these boots and am so glad that I got them. Ok, they are expensive but in my opinion it was worth every penny. They have become true friends to me and I wouldn't be without them. I'm so impressed with the way they have lasted and stood up to the abuse I throw at them - I am by no means carful with them and they still look as good as new. i found myself looking forward to the cold days coming this year so that i could get them back out of the cupboard again. Love them.
Summary: Just love them
