I have always been a lover of shoes and tend to like to dress up smart rather than casual. However, when I started my job where I am now that allowed me to where whatever I want, I thought I would buy myself some trainers for when I have casual days and want to wear comfy clothes and shoes.
Vans seem to have become a lot more popular recently with more and more styles and colours available. I wanted just a plain pair that would go with most of my clothes and so decided to opt for the dark grey and white coloured ones in the 'authentic lo pro' style. They aren't the original chunky style, the white rubber soles are thinner hence the 'lo pro' name. I am usually a size 5 and these Vans are true to size as the size 5 fit me perfectly. I do not wear socks with these style trainers though so if you wanted to wear socks you may need to go up a size. Now that I own a pair of Vans and I know what the fitting is like and so I wouldn't be afraid to purchase more online, but when I bought my first pair I did go in and try them on first in Schuh, which is where I purchased mine from.
This style of Vans is available in several other colours, not just dark grey. They also have white, black, navy blue, pink, purple, green, yellow and many many more! Many shops also have limited edition colours and styles that are only available in that specific store. The 'lo pro' style is available for men, women and children.
The RRP is £40. Limited edition colours may vary and you can often get these slightly cheaper if purchasing online from Amazon or eBay. I got mine for £36 from Schuh as they offer 10% student discount, both in store and online.
Now for the comfort of the trainers. I love how comfy these are and couldn't believe I hadn't been wearing trainers sooner. I have since purchased another pair in navy blue I love them that much. I did try the original style Vans on with the chunkier sole on and these were even comfier, I just preferred the slimmer sole.
The fabric can be wiped clean but you would have to try and wipe off any marks on them pretty quickly to prevent them from staining the fabric. I have found these can be put through the washing machine though if this happens, and it doesn't ruin the trainers. The rubber part of the trainers wipe clean very easily, and the Vans logo on the backs of the trainers do not fade away quickly, which I always found happened with logos on rubber parts of trainers in the past, especially Converse.
In conclusion these are very stylish and comfy trainers and I now own two pairs. My grey pair I purchased before Christmas last year and they are still in great condition, it is only the colour of the soles that seem to be discolouring as it is hard to keep them white. These are available in Schuh, Office, Foot Asylum, and many more shoe retailers.
Vans are essentially known as a skateboarding brand, at least that was their original target market but these days they also do a wide range of casual shoes and trainers for the fashion market and these canvas shoes are so wonderfully comfortable they are worth the slightly inflated price you have to pay for the Vans name. I paid £36.99 for my pair which is a lot for a pair of canvas shoes but in my opinion the attention to detail and the quality of the build pretty much justifies the price and these are a great casual shoe that are very comfortable even in hot weather.
They come in a wide range of colours, mine are what is known as mint leaf which is essentially a mint green colour with white trim, the only concern I had with these is the fact that the colour being on the light side it would show any marks however generally the canvas is pretty robust and does not mark easily.
These are fashionable and durable, the stitching is great quality and very robust and is white in colour as are the laces and the five eyelits. The rubber sole is white as well with a black trim running all around the shoe. There is a Vans logo on the outside of the shoe. The sole is nice and thick which is one of the reasons why these are so comfortable and great shoes either to wear while out shopping or for a casual visit to the pub. What also makes them comfortable to wear is the soft insoles as well as the padding around the heel of the shoe.
These are a nice comfortable fashion shoe and ideal for wearing in the summer as the canvas does breath and stops my feet getting too hot. The only drawback is the price.
In the past four years I myself have had three pairs of these shoes. The first pair were black and lasted me two years and then I brought another pair which didn't last as long because the bottoms on them were thin and within a short while had a hole in. Then of course there's my blue ones which I wore a great deal but they discolored quickly so I converted to Converse.
The product comes in a simplistic rectangle black box with the branding image of Vans written across the top. When unpacking the shoes you will find them wrapped in thin paper, again with the branding image of Vans written on them. This is the same for all pairs no matter the colour or style you get. The range of colours are very simple as they come in green, red, blue, black, white etc but styles are a little more complex as the shoe changes slightly and so does the design upon the canvas. For example, some come with checkers and other floral patterns. This makes the Vans brand very desirable because the produce their shoes for the tastes of everyone.
COMFORT AND RELIABILITY
Overall, I think these shoes are very comfortable. That of course depends on the pair you get. The first pair I had I got a good year before everyone was wearing them. They were made for sturdiness and they had thick bottoms which were extremely padded inside. Of course, this made them extremely comfortable and they even kept my feet warm in the Winter. Now, as this pair was coming towards there end everyone asked me where I had got them from. I didn't tell them because I am one of those people who are each to their own. I simply said that I had them for about a year and can't remember. Unfortunately, they found them to and before I knew it they were walking around in the same shoes. After a couple of months I noticed that everyone was wearing them, not just my friends and I decided not to wear mine. Here I brought a different pair of Vans. I brought them with thin bottoms and flimsy canvas and these didn't last a couple of months. The bottoms had holes in and so did the big toe area on top of the canvas. After this pair I started to notice that Vans had began to distribute a wide variety of shoes. They were producing a lot of different colours and a lot of designs. Now with Blue being my favourite colour, I brought those. These were as stable as the first pair I had brought. They once again and thick bottoms and thick canvas material. The only problem for me was is that although they were comfortable the colour faded too quickly and in areas looked white.
The first pair I brought before they became very popular was £25.99 however as the brand extended and a lot of people started wearing them I noticed the price went up to extortion prices. For my second pair I went back to the same place I had gotten them from before and they were ranged between £35.99 - £39.99 just for the colours, which I thought was ridiculous. I was even more disapointed because my second pair fell apart. Whether that be because they took less care because they just wanted to throw more of these out into the world because they were now popular, or because I suddenly became heavy footed, I don't know. However, checking up online now they are sold for £45.00.
It depends on the pair you get. These trainers are touch and go and I think it is pot luck as to whether you get a decent pair or not. I would definitely recommend getting a pair with thick bottoms and not thin because I find that if the bottoms of thick the rest of the trainer is. I also recommend these if you can find them for a decent price.
I purchased my first pair of Vans shoes about 6 months ago from Amazon, when I realised I wanted a nice pair of summery shoes that would be cool, comfy and fashionable. I saw a lot of people wearing these and I much preferred the style of them to the other leading brand of sneakers here which are converse.
I always thought Vans were more shoes geared towards guys, but when I saw these, I thought they looked quite slimline and girly. I liked how they are available in so many different colours and designs too, I opted for a black and white polka dot pair. Being lo pro sneakers, these do not have the chunky sole that is more commonly seen on Vans, the sole is about half the thickness.
Wearing these, they are quite sturdy, supportive and comfortable, much more so than the little ballet pumps and UGG boots that i am used to wearing. You can wear Vans with or without socks, but I think they look better without. If you like the 'without' sock look but you need socks to be comforable, you could invest in a little pair of ankle socks.
There is only a couple of bad points about these shoes and they are that they are quite narrow, I have quite wide feet and I still manage to wear them ok but they are a tiny bit tight at the sides. Still very comfortable but it may be something you want to keep in mind. Another bad point is the sole on my pair has started to come away a tiny bit at the side but it was fixed easily enough with a tube of superglue.
I'd say these shoes were quite true to size, I am an 8.5 in womens shoes and I wear an 8 here. I am unsure if Vans do womens lo pro shoes above size 8. When you buy them from the shop they come in a narrow box wrapped in tissue paper with instructions on how to clean them. I find that they don't get dirty that easily and if they do a simple scrub with gentle soap and water will do. Mine are looking pretty much brand new still.
They come with a pair of laces and it's up to you how you tie them, some tie them in the usual bow, others tuck the laces into the shoes to create a more neat look. They are also available in a slip-on style in some designs which some people prefer.
I paid £43 for these which does seem rather a lot, however they're comfy and cool to wear for the summer weather, not to mention pretty, so it is an investment fashion piece.
Recommended for teenagers and adults alike.
WHAT ARE THEY?
Canvas shoes from Vans, they are available in different colours and sizes for adults or children.
These have got a very basic design. They are a fabric shoe with a rubber sole that are very casual looking and comfortable. The ones I have got now are very thin red and white stripes but you can buy them in pastel and bright colours as well so there are a pair of these to suit every one. I think they are better when I wear them with jeans and other casual clothes but in the summer I like wearing Vans with cropped trousers because I like that look. The Lo Pro design has got laces but you can buy shoes of the same shape that are slip on.
These shoes are very comfortable and have been since I very first wore them. They are flat but the sole has got a good rubber cushion so they are soft under the foot and it doesn't matter if you are standing up for a long time in them or walking. I like how the material feels on my feet because it is supportive but soft also. I am going to buy my daughter a pair of the same design when we go on holiday because she has enrolled on an explorers adventure course that will involve walking. They do not rub and they keep my feet cool.
I have owned this pair of Vans for 2 months only but the last pair I had were the same style with a different name and they lasted me for over a year. They are very well made and I can tell that from stitches that are very tight and the way the rubber sole is still so white even though I have worn them a lot even though they are not old. I stand a lot in my job but they never make my feet ache or feel sore. I wore them when I went for a walk today with my baby in her stroller and I did not feel any effect of walking on my feet, they are as comfortable as my trainers and do not look like they have been worn very much.
WHAT I THINK
I have worn Vans shoes for many years and I like this pair because they are comfortable and the design is good. Even though the red is quite bright they are still versatile shoes that do not clash with very many other colours, I think they look good with a white outfit but I like to wear them with jeans also.
I think I would still buy this Vans design even if they did not look as good because they are comfortable and have got a classic casual appearance. I wear high heels a lot for work and I look forward sometimes to the days when I know I can wear more casual shoes, I still want to look smart for work and I think Vans are smart enough that I would not look slovenly to my clients.
These Lo Pro Vans cost from £38 for adults and the childrens sizes are not very much cheaper. The colour and design you want will change the price and a lot of the mens Vans are more expensive.
5 Dooyoo Stars.
