I have several pair of Vans, as they are by far my favourite style of 'casual' shoe. One pair I own is the white pair pictured - as with all Vans I'm never sure whether they're for men, women or unisex, but I aren't too bothered as they all look nice and as long as they come in the right size I think they suit either sex, the exception maybe being the flowery patterned style!
Most Vans I own are a different colour (such as blue or black) and have some white bits on them, but as these ones are white they are all one colour, which makes them a simple, classic shoe.
Some Vans are a slip on style but this pair is fastened with laces. I still do that thing that kids do where they tuck their laces into the shoe rather than tying them in a bow, and Vans stay on my feet fine - they are quite fitted (without being too tight).
One reason I love these shoes so much is that I can wear them with a lot of things, I wore them a lot on holiday with shorts when walking places but then I would also wear them just with jeans on a normal day. They are very comfortable too, so I often wear them for walking to work, before changing into something smarter when I get there. The sole on them is quite thick (which adds to why the shoes have lasted so long) and feels quite cushioned under my foot.
I usually pay around £45 for a pair of Vans but with these I was lucky and managed to get them brand new in box from eBay for £15! I usually prefer to get them from somewhere like Office, to ensure that they are genuine but I have no doubt about this pair, they came with the receipt, in the box and I can just tell as the Vans quality is there. I think £45 is well worth it for a pair of these as they have lasted me years (I don't wear them all the time though) and still have plenty of life left in them.
The only thing that's happened to these shoes is that, because they are white, they look slightly dirty. They can go in the washing machine but I have a fear that they'll come out misshapen and ruined.
Instead I'm just sensible with when I wear them (I didn't take them to Glastonbury for example...) and they still look perfectly acceptable.
Over all these are a stylish and comfortable shoe, which are long lasting and great quality - perfect.
I have a pair of all white vans, they have the chunky sole and small vans branding on the outside of each shoe and the back of the heel on each shoe. I love the simplicity of the all white look which is the sole reason I purchased them. Their direct competitors are shoes such as the nike blazer low and gts range which off a similar low cut lightweight style fashion shoe. In my opinion the slightly plainer look of the vans clinches it over the nikes.
The comfort of vans is second to none. The spongy insole coupled with the thick skater style soleplate means walking is a real joy in them. They mould you your feet quite quickly and are very very supple after a few wears. Unlike the leather vans which I also own, the canvas vans gave me no blisters from the off which is always a positive.
The canvas vans in white do get dirty quite quickly, obviously this shows up because of the white however they scrub up well in a low temperature cycle on the washing machine. Low temp is a must due to the sole plate glue, you don't want that melting! But its a plus that canvas can be washed unlike leather and suede. Leave to dry in the sun and bingo, a fresh pair of white vans again!
I paid £40 for my vans and they worth every single penny for the amount I wear them! The fact you can wash the shoes greatly increases their lifespan and durability is definitely not an issue!
A great purchase, everything you'd want from the shoe.
