It is surely a human right for every woman to enjoy eating chocolate, to spend money on handbags and to have comfortable shoes to wear. I only discovered the pleasure of this last one when I discovered the Wider fit shoes ltd company. After buying two pairs for wearing every day I decided to see what else was available for wearing indoors and during the hot summer months we sometimes have here in England.

A visit to the factory shop in Rushden (Northamptonshire) and I found they produced a range of light weight summer shoes in canvas that were just what I was looking for. We were told they have them manufactured in Spain using their own lasts, and keeping a tight hold on the quality of workmanship. The shoes I chose were called 'Scroll' and were available in Denim Blue and Beige. Being a person who prefers colours I chose the Denim Blue. The shoes are specially made for people with wide feet and are available in a width referred to as 'V', this fits up to a 4E and a '6V' which fits up to a 8E.

The Scroll has a T bar fastening using Velcro to secure it in place. They come in a pleasant mid blue colour which seems to be wearable with any casual clothing and is comfortable with or without socks/tights.

I have been wearing mine for about six months now mainly indoors but occasionally outside in the garden and they are showing no sign of wear on the soles or the uppers. As the soles are white they do have the odd dirty mark on them. The canvas uppers can be sponged clean if necessary.

The shoes are available in a few shops around the country and are also available on line from the web site www.widerfitshoes.co.uk. Last summer I paid £30 for them but I see in the new catalogue that they are now priced at £32 for the 'V' fitting and £37 for the '6V' fitting. They are available in sizes 3 to 8 (no half sizes). The '6V'can be bought VAT free if you qualify.

A catalogue can be obtained from the company which shows the full range of mens and womens shoes. A free foot measuring guide is included with the catalogue but I would advise caution using this the first time as I found I needed a longer shoe than the measure suggested. If buying on the web or from the catalogue a charge of £5 per order is added but this allows you to send them back for exchange as many times as necessary at no further cost to yourself.
