I have always loved plimsolls, even at school I found them comfy and easy. You just slipped them on and off you went. Having both my kids at school at the same time, I really enjoyed the shoe shopping when we used to head to Woolworths to buy plimsolls for £1.99 a pair. Now being 38ish, I wanted a pair of shoes that were comfy, that I could just chuck on to pop to the shop or walk into town, nothing fancy, just simple.
I was warned by my daughter not to get plimsolls because that was 'sad' and embarrassing. We headed to the shoe shop with her becoming more like Gok Wan every step, telling me what I should wear and what I shouldn't. Apparently just saying the word plimsoll makes me sound old!! Shoe Zone is a favourite haunt with me and my kids as they sell quite wide shoes which is good for my daughter, saves going to Clarkes and spending £50! Anyway, we headed into Shoe Zone and I started to look at the slip on shoes, even in my opinion, some of them were quite old looking. I found a pair of these laces up canvas shoes and tried them on. I was sold on them straight away; although the soles were quite thin, they were still very comfy and they were £3 a pair or two for £5, absolute bargain. I bought two pairs of black ones, I have stopped undoing the laces on them and now am able to slip them on and off, it's as close to a pair of plimsolls as my kids are going to let me get.
I have since also bought a pair of white ones, I get married next year and I am going to dye these purple. I have some pretty white shoes for the ceremony but I can't wear high heels all day. After the ceremony is over and the photos are done, I will slip these on and be able to dance without sore feet!
Recently I have seen a lot of people wearing Plimsoll type shoes which are lace up. I have seen men wear them but have noticed woman wearing them more with leggings or slightly cropped jeans. I love the way the shoes look as they look great for a casual look. I decided to go on the hunt for a pair of these shoes, so I popped into my local New Look store. They had various different colours of them in here and they were £6.99 each. I tried a pair on but wasn't sure I like them, so I decided to look somewhere else. I purchased the shoes from my local Shoe Zone store, and yes some of you may scream and say how much you hate the cheap shoes in here but they really are very good value in here. The shoes are just £4.99 each or you can purchase 2 pairs for £8.00 and you can mix the colours as well. I thought this was brilliant value and had to take advantage of this rather than paying £6.99 each for them in New Look. I preferred the look of the ones in Shoe Zone as the lace up part of the shoe came up slightly higher covering more of the foot that the New Look one's did.
The shoes come in Black, White or Grey. The shoes have matching laces to match the main colour of the shoes; apart from the Grey one's which have white laces on them. I vary in shoes sizes from a size 5/6 so I picked up a size of each to try on. I ended up purchasing the size 5 as these were a perfect fit for me and weren't too tight. The shoes are really comfortable to wear and because the main material is canvas it also gives my feet the chance to breathe as well. The rubber sole means that the shoe is also flexible so it suitable for wearing on different types of ground, and will be perfect for walking along a stone beach. I have worn my shoes with slightly cropped jeans and they look nice and casual with them. I haven't yet worn the white pair as the weather has been pretty awful and I don't want them to get dirty, how-ever these will look great in the summer (hopefully we'll have a summer sometime soon!).
I often find that some new shoes can give me blisters on the back of my foot; how-ever I was very impressed that these shoes didn't do that. The shoes didn't rub at all and they were really comfortable to wear when walking around town. I give these shoes 5 out of 5 stars as they are really comfortable, look great and are fantastic value.
