The name claddagh comes from the name of a small fishing village in Galway now part of Galway City.This is in the west of Ireland.It was meant to start of with a man called Richard Joyce a Galway seafarer who was kidnapped by pirates and brought into slavery in North Africa.This is where he learned to be a goldsmith.When he was released he returned to his native home which was galway.This is where he set up camp and was a master goldsmith producing the Claddagh.The jewelery was so popular it was every womans wedding ring when the got married in the fishing village.The Claddagh has now spread worldwide and is very popular in America.
