Kickers
by N Johnstone
I have a 12 year old boy and have brought Kickers for him as school shoes, as they are best known for being hard wearing and ideal to all parents as sensible shoes. When my son attended Primary shcool he played football twice a day, nearly every day and the kickers did seem to last the test of time, however this August I brought a new ... pair for his secondary school, costing £60.00 and they have already become unstitched around the front, therefore the sole falling off, bearing in mind he no longer has playtime twice a day and football only once a week, these batch have proven to be a big disappointment. It has come to my attention that I am not the only person who has found to have this problem so early on with my purchase, I have had a great response from many other parents that the same has happened to their children's shoes. I will be contacting Kickers head office for them to take account of the price that they are charging for shoes that don't seem to be able to last for more then a few months. I, as well as other parents would have thought to get at least a couple of school terms out of them.....
Please if you are reading this and have experienced the same problem, do as I have and get in touch with Kickers...I have no issue paying the money for kickers if they are strong and dependable, as they were when I were younger. Read the complete review |

Forbidden Planet (London)
by Mescaline
Placed an order 2 weeks ago from this website. Today was wondering where it had got to. Had received no form of contact from the website since the order confirmation. Became worried as the product page now listed my item as out of stock. Signed into the website using my order details to discover that my order had not yet been dispatched, ... presumably because it was now out of stock.
I know that it's common for online shops to mismanage stock and take too many orders, but the lack of a simple email (or indeed, any kind of contact or explanation) ensured that now I will never receive my order in time for Christmas. I have cancelled my order with forbiddenplanet.com and ordered the item from another website. Emails to their customer department have been ignored.
This website has a good range of items for sale but I don't know how you can trust whether or not they are in stock, as obviously it is beyond them to keep you updated. Luckily, they do not charge your card until the item is despatched, but I have heard horror stories of people giving up on their order assuming it lost in the post etc only to be billed and to receive their now-unwanted item months later. The ability to check on or cancel your order is not made at all clear by their website or their confirmation email, but it is possible. Nevertheless, my first experience with this site has been abysmal, and I will not be using them again. Read the complete review |

The Friary Shopping Centre (Guildford)
by mlia
I visited a Fashion Show held at The Friary Shopping Centre in Guildford on the 16th of October, which was featuring the new fashions and trends.
When I arrived at the Friary (at about 2.20) we firstly parked the car in a nearby car park. Being a Saturday- of course the car parks were quite busy however we luckily found a car-space ... situated directly opposite the centre. I didn't know what to expect from the fashion show and was apprehensive that I would be pleasantly surprised at the event. At first I was slightly concerned that due to the vast size of the centre- it may be difficult to find my way around and locate the fashion show. However, as we entered (from one of the several entrances) there were numerous flyers/ leaflets directing you to the main runway and therefore it was easily accessible.
By now there were a few people standing by the runway- which was situated centrally between the Disney Store and a vacant shop which was used for the models and therefore was covered up. I noticed there was one staircase on the far left on the runway- which I assumed would be used for the arrival/ departure of the models. The runway was about 1 metre tall and stretched for over 50 m- and whilst the few minutes until show time commenced- the area became busier and the atmosphere filled with excitement.
When the show started we were firstly introduced to the presenter- who told us about the several different fashions that we would be seeing. The show began with a Military fashion, and loud music was played (from the several speakers situated around the runway) and one-by-one 4 models walked out onto the runway- each representing a different outfit of the Military collection. The audience were kept captivated from the music, and the excitement in the atmosphere. The models walked in time with the music and each had an equal amount of stage time and the fact that each model smiled as they walked out- made the audience feel more warming to the models, and want to keep on watching. The first 4 models then went off stage and were replaced with 4 new models representing fashions from the Knit Wear collection. At this point a new song was played out, with a similar beat pattern, therefore again the models walked in time with the music. Also each model smiled as they walked down the runway. Throughout the event I stood in the audience at about half way down the runway- because this area was not as busy as the end of the runway, and therefore I was able to stand at the front. These events continued to happen for the next two collections, and we were introduced to the first and second set of models for the second time. The show ended with a finally- and all the models walked down the runway, clapping, whilst the audience cheered.
Overall, I enjoyed the arts event very much and it was useful for me in the production of my own top. I was able to see the kinds of styles that were being used and I was able to see how the fashion designers had used certain textures and colours to obtain a specific result. Read the complete review |
