Advantages: Sweet items, cakes
Disadvantages: Price, some food does not taste very nice
I had some vouchers a little while ago as a gift for Marks and Spencer, I never really normally shop in Marks and Spencer and tend to stick to Tescos, so I went and had a shop at Marks and Spencers and for me I have to say I have a rather mixed bag of opinions about this store.
I find that with Marks and Spencer you have to keep totalling the price in your head and chopping and changing items to get the most for your money, in Marks and Spencers your money tends not to go very far. You could buy the weeks food items from Tesco and it would cost far less than if you went to Marks and Spencers.
People say that with Marks and Spencer you pay for the quality of the food e.t.c., but in my opinion Marks and Spencer try too hard to be fancy in some of their food. I bought a jar of pickled onions from Marks and Spencer and they were not to my liking at all, they were packed full of all sorts of spices and it just did not taste right, their jar of red cabbage was not my cup of tea either as it was far too soft and had no crunch to it at all (both were Marks and Spencer brands).
I will say this for Marks and Spencer though, their cakes and sweet items and lovely. I bought a chocolate Marks and Spencer swiss roll and it was lovely, soft, rich and chocolatey.
Marks and Spencer are good to buy sweet items but not for your daily shop.
Summary: They are good for cakes but not for day to day shopping
