Advantages: Great products range, excellent quality items, value for money, well laid out stores

Disadvantages: Not the most friendly staff, long queues

Marks and Spencer is one of those stores that has been about for so long now that it is a British institution and a name easily recognisable on the high street. The store used to be renowned for its quality of items with their clothes made to a fantastic standard and nothing ever being made on the cheap but of recent times the store has undergone a lot of changes and gone through some difficult times so how are things looking now?

I have been to a few M&S stores in city centres for a nice little look around and always find it easy to locate what I am looking for but unfortunately I still find some of the stores to feel a little outdated but understand that M&S don't want to alienate their market which is to a large extent the elderly.
The stores offer a great variety of products from homewares, mens clothing, womens clothing, childrens clothing, bedding, fragrances and even food. The items are very good on the whole for their quality and many of the items are reasonably priced. Quite a few of the items have now begun to become aimed at a younger market which makes it more appealing for people like myself to go in an look at now.
The staff in the stores are not people who I normally find to be overly friendly but they help you adequetly so I can't complain about this too much.
My wife did purchase a skirt from M&S which was not cheap and actually fell apart at the seams on the first time of wearing so I am not always convinced with the quality of the items but if you check them properly before buying you should avoid any disasters.
The returns policy is good and easy to do but you will need to queue for quite a long time normally to return items as many people buy their products but don't try them on.

Negatives:

- Not the most friendly staff in the world
- Outdated store decor
- Long queues for purchases and returns
- Check quality before buying as you can get some items that are poor

Marks and Spencers is on its way back up and is worth a look in now with a great range of products and many more aimed at a younger market. Always be careful to check your items as the returns are easy but take time.
