Advantages: undercover - large choice of shops

Disadvantages: car parks fills up quickly

If you are ever in the Birmingham area and want to go shopping, Merry Hill is a very good place to visit. There are several buses from Birmingham City centre that take you there and these run frequently. If you are driving, there are 7,000 free car park spaces but get there early because the fill up quickly. Opening hours are 10.00am - 8.00pm Mon to Fri (9.00pm on a Thursday), 9.00am -7.00pm Sat and 11.00am to 5.00 pm Sunday.

Merry Hill is built over 125 acres with the main shopping area undercover holding 200 shops. These range from Debenhams and Marks and Spencers down to small shops such as the Hand Made Cosmetic Company. There are banks and cash machines in case you run out of money (a certainty!). There are 'mall maps' located at every corner to help you locate the shops you want (and to stop you getting lost!) and there are plenty of seats for you to take a breather. There are several eateries catering for every taste, as well as 'in house' restaurants in Debenhams and Marks and Spencers.

The shops housing the largest areas are:
Debenhams
Asda
Sainsburys
Marks and Spencer - two areas one for women and children and one for men and furniture
BHS
Boots

There is a large outdoor retail park as well which is spread over two areas. The first which is nearest to the indoor area houses stores such as JD Sports, JJB sports,. The other area contains a massive Mothercare world as well as the electrical retailers such as Miller Brothers, Scottsh Power and Comet.

Another good thing about Merry Hill is that at the back is the Waterfront area - this is the entertainment area of the site containing a multiplex cinema and pubs, restaurants and clubs and as the name suggests all set on the canal.

Merry Hill outstrips Birmingham City Centre for the experience of shopping every time. Free parking, under cover, can walk around safely and great choice of shops. I highly recommend a
visit if you are in the area.
