This shredder has served it's purpose for a year and a half... barely. This thing overheats incredibly easily and it's not the best built shredder out there.
It does shred my bank statement documents which are 5 pages deep and even credit cards but if you're working in an office where there's a lot of shredding going on, this is not the shredder for you.
Personal use at home is what this thing is built for. It shreds simple 80 gsm copy paper easily and there has never been a time where it has failed to chew through anything except when I overload it myself. The blades haven't worn out yet and that's great but I would like if it did more pages and if it wouldn't overheat so much!
The overheating began almost immediately after I bought this. I bought it because I had 3 box files full of paper, they were pilled high and almost completely useless, so it was time to get rid.
After just 20 minutes on shredding around 100 pages it had packed up. It was boiling hot, and even after leaving it to cool could only manage a further 10 minutes when it cooled down. It took ages to get through those box files. 3 days if my memory serves me correctly.
The shredder despite being left outside to cool off still took 25 minutes to cool down enough to simply last another 25. That ratio of overheating time to usage time is not good, and does not favour the time conscious user.
The plastic casing is at least sturdy and the basket does put up a fight when you hit it. You can indent or bend it, but not by simply knocking it or dropping it on the floor.
The shredder has a safety feature whereby it cannot be operated without the lid being properly slotted in place until you hear the plastic click, which will turn on or cut out the power respectively.
The cable is only a couple feet long so keeping this away from the plug is not possible without an extension cable. More money you'll need to have spare if you haven't got one already.
Overall this is not a great shredder. It's slow, overheats, not the best for capacity, not well built but this is good for just light use at home when you're shredding a couple bills on a Sunday afternoon. If you're in the office Monday - Friday doing shredding all day or shredding lots of paper all day, this is definitely one to avoid like the plague. Do not buy!
Unfortunately I found the Fellowes P70CM Shredder not as good quality as I would have hoped for. After using it for a number of months the mechanism stopped working. Before that the Fellowes P70CM Shredder had been working well if a little noisy in operation, admittedly, like a lot of low cost shredders. It is a relatively inexpensive item and does its job well when working. Other users may not experience a breakdown as I did. The shredder has the usual operation buttons but advises only shredding a small amount of documents and then allowing the device to cool for a time. This shredder does shred very well and makes documents irretrievable when it's running. The Fellowes brand is a good brand and have a lot of experience in this field but I'm afraid to say my experience with this particular product of theirs left a lot to be desired. I hope to have better luck next time.
The Fellowes P70CM Cross-Cut Shredder is perfect for those important documents such as bank statement or business finances. I bought this due to identity fraud being on the rise and also for business use.
The actual shredder is by Fellowes a reliable brand when it comes to shredders. It weighs only 5kg when empty and the dimensions are 32 x 19 x 38cm (w/d/h), so would fit under any desk or in your bedroom easily. It is a cool design with see through box so you can see how full it is. The box is 17L so can hold around 100 sheets shredded.
What makes this shredder different to others is that its security level is 3 due to its cross cutting technology making the shredded pieces almost confetti size. It shreds 7 A4 sheets easily though I only shred 5 A4 sheets at a time just to be safe. The shredder has a safety function; it cuts off if you remove the top while it's ON. The buttons are located on the top, start, stop and reverse which make it easy to use. The best thing about the shredder is that it not only shreds A4 paper it shreds stapled paper and credit cards.
- Shreds up to 7 A4 sheets at a time
- Shreds into 3.9x50mm confetti-like pieces (Higher security - level 3)
- 17 litre mesh bin holds up to 100 sheets
- Auto-start/stop and reverse for easy use
- Safety cut-out when head is removed
- Shreds paper, staples and credit cards
- 3 year cutter warranty
Overall the shredder works well and does exactly what it's supposed to do. I got the shredder for around £45. You can get a lower model of this (P50CM) without the cross cut technology for around £20. Also a higher model than this if you also want to shred CD's! I recommend a shredder even if it's not this, to everyone due to the high increase of I.D Fraud.
The P70CM has been engineered to provide higher security for the home or home office user. Combining this with a distinct sense of style and the power to protect your privacy the P70CM stands alone as a shredder for the fashion conscious user. Excellent value product. Cross cut particles provide higher security (level 3) and significantly reduce bulk waste. Engineered to shred up to 140 sheets per day. Auto-start maximises ease of use. A mesh basket allows visual access to shred volume. Contemporary styling to suit any environment. Accepts small staples
