Chartres Cathedral is a beautiful cathedral, worth seeing for itself, but unfortunately it is the only thing worth seeing in Chartres, which makes it worth the trip only if you really have the time. The building is impressive, architecturally. I am not a huge architecture buff, so I do not remember off the top of my head the details of which Gothic period it belongs to, etc., but as an amateur visitor it was beautiful, and the stained glass was particularly note worthy.
