Advantages: Amazing views of Toronto, rotating restaurant, glass floor

Disadvantages: The glass floor which is just scary! - and the ticket price adds up for a family

We visited Toronto last year and as we were told that any visit wasn't complete without a trip up the CN Tower, we decided to venture up it (that is all of us apart from my mother who is terrified not only of heights, but also of lifts - so she waited for us at the bottom!).

There were several choices of tickets and as we had travelled over 3000 miles to get there we decided to go for the Observation Deck /Glass Floor plus the 'Skypod' option which was around $25 per person.

You get straight into the lift which is super fast and takes you to the Glass Floor and outdoor Observation Deck. The Glass Floor is quite simply a glass floor (toughened thick glass) that you can stand on and see straight through to the ground below!!! As someone who does suffer from a bit of vertigo I was terrified of standing on this and even more scared when a guy placed his young baby on the glass floor and took a picture! It just feels all wrong to be able to see through the solid platform you are standing on so high up!

The view from the Observation Deck is fantastic and you can see all the city behind the tower and ahead over the city airport, the islands and Lake Ontario. You can then take some steps up further to the cafe and indoor Observation Deck. But the most breathtaking is even higher up at the Skypod level, where I really felt my knees go!! Apparently this is the world's highest public observation deck! As you would expect everything down below looks far smaller from up there!

The most fantastic thing about the tower is 360 - the tower's restaurant, which basically revolves around once per hour so you can sit and eat a fine dining meal and see the whole view from the tower without moving! What an amazing place for a marriage proposal or special date!

Overall, it is true that going up the CN tower is 'must-do' when in Toronto, unless you are totally incompatible with it like my mother!

Summary: One thing you should experience when in Toronto!

Glass floors are definitely a challenge. My head knows they are safe but the rest of me is shrieking "Nooooooo!"
