DonauinselNewest Review: ... this is a joggers’, cyclists‘ and skaters‘ haven – great and flat and it goes on for miles. You can swim in the water although it can be pretty cold, even in summer. The Donauinsel is home to the world’s longest water slide where you can get unlimited ride wristbands so you can rutsch and rutsch, and then rutsch some more. Warning though – if it’s 33 C outside, even sliding your way into the pool and getting slightly wet on the way down does not prepare you for the temperature difference. German lesson time children. Donau = Danube Insel = Island Donauinsel = You’ve guessed it – the Danube Island Now onto the good stuff. Where is the Donauinsel? ***************************** Just north of the city centre. It’s an area of land surrounded on both sides by the Danube - hence the island part. Up to 200 000 visitors make their way there every weekend (supposedly – I don’t buy it but that’s what my *wonderful* guide book says...).
