Hot water bath in Budapest (Gellert Baths and Spa Budapest)

Advantages: Lots to do, bargain price

Disadvantages: Some baths are women only and male only

During a recent visit to Budapest I visited the Gelert Baths.

The baths can be found at the back of the Gelert hotel, the entrance is sign posted.

As you walk into the building there is magnificent architecture, there a are pay kiosks to the right and left, struggled to figure out what we wanted to pay for due to being written in Hungarian..but what am i to expect.

I was directed though some turn-styles and to a door on the right, this was a ladies only section.
There are several cubicles for changing, each have there own locker, once you have changed the attendant locks your locker and you have a tag which you can put round your writst or ankle.

There are several pool areas, the first we went into as was next to where we were changing is the effervescent bath sections, this was truly amazing. Having walked around for miles and miles getting into a pool that is 30 degree's was divine. There are nice hot water fountains and the pool totally relaxes you.

The other baths are the three outdoor pools with a wave pool, a childrens pool and various other pools all at different temperatures, despite it being freezing cold outside the outdoor pools are that warm that you dont realise it.

The water at the Gelert baths is natural hot spring water and is renound for healing various ailments, this is due to the water being rich in magnesium and calcium.

Price:-
I was totally confused with the prices, to use the pools and the woman and man only pools it cost 3100 HUF, which worked out about £8. However if you leave the pool within 2-3 hours when you put your card into the turnstyle to leave you get 400huf back. So when we worked it out when we left we had only paid £7.

6am - 7pm weekdays
6am - 5pm weekends

As well as the baths there are also other services at the baths including:-
Masages, mud packs and physiotherapy.
Also available are the solarium, buffets, gift shop and a hairdresser.

The baths is an excellent place to go if you visit Budapest, the city is famous for its many spa's but this one i totally recommend.
