Advantages: Seeing the home of the Oscars, and the celebrities' stars
Disadvantages: Not aesthetically that nice an area and nothing there apart from the above!
I was lucky enough to visit LA last year and saw all the key sights and areas, and I can quickly tell you that Hollywood Boulevard is certainly a disappointment in my eyes!
The images you see and the things you hear about Hollywood Boulevard and the Walk of Fame are far different to the reality, and the area really is not gamourous and upmarket at all. The street is full of cheap shops and often tatty looking ones at that, and does not compare to the gorgeous Rodeo Drive area of Beverly Hills. I had expected that since the Oscars were on that road the place would be really glam and wreak of money but this is just not the case. The street is more like something you might find in Blackpool than the image you have of LA (sorry Blackpool!), and you really don't feel inspired to hang around there.
Yes - there are the gold stars on the pavement and the Kodak Theater is worth seeing for sure, but other than that anyone visiting Hollywood Boulevard will want to quickly move on to the other areas of LA such as Venice Beach, Malibu Beach, Beverly Hills and the Hollywood Hills. Hollywood itself is really not that nice an area overall and could do with some money being spent on it to bring it up to the standards that I am sure most tourists expect of it!
Hollywood Boulevard is worth seeing but don't go there with high expectations as they will not be met!
Summary: Definitely worth seeing, but don't have high expectations!
