With all of the publicity of the Oscars going on at the moment, I thought I should bring you news of the plight surrounding the famous Hollywood sign.

It sits atop a hillside in the vicinity of one of the richest and most famous film studio areas in the world, Hollywood, California.

It was built 78 years ago in 1923 by the Hollywoodland Real Estate Group and was intended to last for only a year and a half yet its still there after all of this time.

The huge White letters spelling HOLLYWOOD span 450 feet across the hillside and stand 50 feet tall.

It fell into total disrepair and in 1973 was taken onboard by the Hollywood Sign trust who protect it and maintain it to this day.
The original sign was replaced in 1978 by a newer one.

The trust has looked after the sign while funding other events and landmarks in the Los Angeles area.
It is only through their hard work and charity and fundraising that the sign stays up there on the hillside.
It is protected behind a walled and gated estate that surrounds the grounds that it resides on.

Today, the proud landmark tells you, as it always has, that you are in the land of the stars.....
HOLLYWOOD!
