I'm quite glad she did because despite her age she was as fit as a butcher's dog and talk about row, she would be an asset to one of the teams in the Oxford/Cambridge boat race. ****History**** Years ago the ancient city of Kaunos was located in the historical region of Caria near the border with Lycia and right near the coastline on an isolated rocky hill that was surrounded by marshes. The shallow waters around Kaunos were a fantastic source of fish and salt, so the population survived by trading these natural resources, however its most famous export was figs, which were exported to Rome. The kings and most prominent citizens of Kaunos built their tombs the way Lycians did. Having just returned from Turkey i would like to express what a beautiful country it is and how much history it possess. Personally i would have never thought that so much history could be encorporated into such a small area as Dalyan but for history enthusiasts it certainly didnt disappoint. Kaunos is an ancient city situated 5 minutes away from the town of Dalyan, although town may be a bit strong its more like a small village. There are two main ways to reach Kaunos, via the road (which we didn't do so i cant give any information on this but i do know the roads are a little dangerous) or via boat. Interesting and informative tour of unspoiled volcanic lava tunnels and caverns.
Hard to get to without transportation. Not suitable for very young, elderly or infirm.
El Jardin of Cactus
can spend all day there, open all year, not full of "typical holiday tat"
