Advantages: Nice bars

Disadvantages: Limited attractions in the area

La Bastille the notorious prison that wastoppled as part of the revolution in France would make an excellent tourist attraction if it had not been raised to the ground and currently the site has a bank occupying it however the area of Paris si still worth a visit as there are some significant sites to see and it also has a vibrant bar scene so you can celebrate in your own particular way if you think the French revolution was actually something worth celebrating.

There is a statue inthe main square which is pretty impressive with a winged image of liberty atop the colum however the square itself is not quite so impressive due to the traffic. However near by is the Opera Bastille and it is worth having a look at as it is a bit of architecture that you will either love or hate as it does tend to polarise opinions.

The downside is the rather limited number of sites to see however given the factthat we had a wander and a coffee and only spet two hours in the area it does not occupy a lot of your time and we did return at night to sample the bars.

The area boasts a lot of rather pleasant cafes and it is a great part of Paris to visit and do a bit of people watching which is always enjoyable particularly if the weather is nice and it can be rather relaxing as well.

Summary: No prison to see just a bank
