Until the Meinl Group was taken over by Corso Spar, in 2000, the word Meinl was synonymous with Coffee and quality food, with Meinl being the supermarket for the more refined shopper, who didn't have to watch the Schilling and Groschen (now the Euro and cents!). The flagship store, located on the Graben, right in the city centre, remains and the store is the Viennese equivalent of say Fortnum & Mason or the Foodhall at Harvey Nicholls. Of course this does mean that there is a certain premium to be paid on specific items, but this is mainly due to the fact that they are not available elsewhere in town.
