Advantages: A great view..
Disadvantages: Dirty smelly toilets, attacker flies, expensive entry fee and restaurant
The Mirador del Rio is a large viewpoint on the island of Lanzarote.
Opening Hours: Every day 10.00 - 18.00
Admission: Euro4.70 Euro
The view point offers a spectacular view of the Chinijo Archipelago. This includes the beautiful island of La Graciosa which has a population of just over 600 people. Also Montana Clara, Alegranza, Roque del Este and Roque del Oeste.
In Lanzarote's very early days this view point would often be used as a look out for when the island would be attacked by pirates.
In 1973 it was turned into a tourist attraction and restaurant.
The view from here really is amazing, and there are various places you can look out from to see different parts. The camera opportunities are brilliant here. But... i feel its a tad over priced, especially as there are other parts of the island which have just as good views and they are free.
The mirador del Guinate which is close by has a fantastic view (maybe even better) and it is just literally a small dead end in the road where you can sit for as long as you want and above all it is FREE!
I understand Lanzarote make money from their tourist attractions, but maybe if they charged a little less they would bring in more people!
There is a gift shop which was reasonably priced, the restaurant and bar was very over priced and the toilets weren't particularly clean.
I was also bitten by a weird fly and came up in a huge rash here so i wasnt too impressed (maybe that put me off lol)
If you suffer with vertigo (like my partner) this may not be the place for you because it literally is right on the edge of a mountain and there is a very steep drop!
A good place for budding photographers but generally i wouldn't bother paying i would go down the road.
We wouldn't return but at least we can say we have been there!
Summary: A nice view but what is the point when its free down the road?
