Ningaloo Reef is found between Exmouth and Coral Bay towards the North of Australia's West coast.
Having already visited the Great Barrier Reef a couple of times I was very keen to check out Ningaloo Reef as I had heard fantastic things about it. I was not disappointed.
There aren't really any big settlements near the reef. Ningaloo is tiny as is Exmouth. The area is very much unspoilt.
The beauty of this reef is it does not require a boat journey to enjoy it. You can simply wander down the beach with your snorkel and you're there! The variety of marine life I saw here was much more vast that I saw at the GBR and the colours much more vivid too.
Also, because we weren't part of a 'party' going out on a boat (which I guess is what most people do at the GBR) then my girlfriend and I were able to explore without bumping into anyone else or even seeing anyone else for many hours some days.
This stretch of coastline has many different bays and beaches to explore, all are beautiful and this area has given me some of my fondest and most treasured memories from a year of traveling all over Australia.
I highly recommend a visit to Ningaloo to pretty much anybody :-)
