Honolulu has long been a key port for the US navy in the Pacific, with a major naval base having been in operation to the west of the city for a full century. In all that time, the base has become best known for the events that happened there on December 7th 1941, events that President Franklin D Roosevelt was later to famously refer to as "a day that will live in infamy".
