Petra (Jordan)Newest Review: ... but it was worth it. The afternoon, and early morning are the best times to see Petra due to way the shadow falls on the sandstone rock, and we were certainly impressed. The siq is the ancient main entrance to the site, and is 1200m in length. It takes you through a narrow sandstone cliffs, and if like my husband you are interested in geology, you will be in your element admiring the ... more |

One of the many places we visited whilst in the Middle East this summer was the wonderous site of Petra in Jordan. Many people will already be familiar with some of the sights of Petra due to it featuring in one of the indiana jones films, however, it was our guide book that drew our attention to this place, with now claims a place as one of the new wonders of the world. Petra is located about 4 hours drive from the Jordanian capital of Amman, and there are plenty of lodgings and eateries in Wadi Musa, the little town beside the entrance to Petra. Petra is a Nabataen dead city, showcasing this ancient civilisation and their skillful impressive ... Read the complete review

Okay, firstly if you don't know where this is then you need to watch Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade - You know the bit where they ride into the Canyon and you see the Pink Church? Well that's Petra!! Now that we have that sorted out. Petra is so beautiful and definitely worth a Visit. I visited from Amman and it certainly took us a good few hours to get there. A word of warning, the last 30-60 minutes of the Journey takes you on a very very windy road, so if you suffer from Travel Sickness then make sure you sit at the front of the vehicle and take some Travel Sickness Pills. You will get charged more than a local to get in, but ... Read the complete review

Petra deserves it's place as one of the new wonder's of the world and anyone who ever gasped at Indiana Jones riding out upon that beautiful, carved sandstone building in the Last Crusade have only had a glimpse of how impressive the real thing is. The ancient city dates from around 100BCE, built by the Nabataeans and lost in a red stone valley until relatively modern times. Entering the site was for me the most breathtaking part of the whole complex (not that the rest disappoints) as you walk through a natural narrow rock gulley for around 1 kilometre before it opens up and the famous Treasury comes into view. Only people on foot or on the horse rides offered ... Read the complete review

Petra This is not the Blue peter variety but a world heritage site. An ancient city hidden in the middle of the mountains in Jordan. Having read a previous review on Dooyoo I could never do it the same justice as all the information you need is there. However I would like to share my opinions on this magical mysterious place and encourage you to visit yourselves to marvel at the wanders that it beholds. It was built around 100 BC by the Nabataeans and only recently discovered in 1812. Petra has recently been named one of the new wonders of the modern world. After a two and a half hour bus trip from the coastal town of Aqaba via the mountainous route ... Read the complete review

I visited Petra in July this year. Not the best time to visit Jordan in the heat of summer with 35 degrees plus every day! However Petra soon took my mind from the heat and amazed me with it's sights. Petra is a huge site formed by the Naebatteans many. many, many years ago. The entrance to Petra is somewhat touristy, with stalls cashing in on Indians Jones - I saw the Indiana jones souvenir stall amd coffee shop! Prices are 21JD for 1 day or 26JD for 2 (£12 / £15) but I'd seriously recommend getting the 2 day one as one day is not enough. As you enter the site you'll see the Siq which is 1 Km long, a pathway through towering rocks, all sorts of colours from sandy to ... Read the complete review
