Until the 19th century, the Rialto Bridge was the only link between the sides of the Grand Canal. To see how busy the bridge is today, you'd think it was still. At any time of day, the bridge is always stunningly crowded. The current bridge is the fifth bridge to stand on the site, and was the first to be made of stone.
