Trastevere is an area of Rome which is still relatively untouched by tourists. It is a medieval area that is located just across the river Tiber which is why its name literally means, 'over the Tiber'. You get there by crossing the bridge called Ponto Sisto which is right next to the Isola Tiberna. To walk around Trastevere is to feel like you have gone back in time. You will be walking on cobbled streets, between narrow alleys where elderly people sit outside their homes on little chairs bathed in sunshine and watching the world go by.
