Sights & Attractions in Brussels in generalNewest Review: ... early and so were able to take advantage of their £59 return tickets. Upon arriving in Brussels I found it quite a undescrpit place. Obviously as it is the home of all things European there were a lot of big office type building and official looking buildings and it was actually quite a quiet place in some areas. I also found the area quite dirty unfortunately. I guess you do find this with most big cities but there was quite a lot of litter on the ground. We also walked past an open air urinal which smelt awful and was truly disgusting! Most people in Brussels speak English which is nice. Historically Brussels is a Dutch speaking c... more |

Brussels I recently took a trip to Brussels so I thought I would share my experiences of the city. Firstly a little bit of background from an article I read. Brussels is the largest urban area in Belgium. It comprises 19 municipalities, including the City of Brussels proper, which is the capital of Belgium, Flanders and the French Community of Belgium. The metropolitan area has a population of over 1.8 million. Since the end of the Second World War, Brussels has been an important centre for international politics. The presence of the main EU institutions as well as the headquarters of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) has made the city ... Read the complete review

What to do. On a day trip: Grand Place, Mannikin Pis, and the Old Town. Weekend: Above. The tourist office inside the town hall on the grand place gave me a walking tour to do around Brussels based on at Cartoon Character murals around the centre of the city. Now for someone like me into Tintin and Snowy in a big way, it was interesting to walk around the different little districts of the old city and be introduced to fab cartoon characters at the same time. Huge murals painted on the sides of houses. I couldn't find one, so I ask this man, and he took he there (I have walked past it). The tour takes you from the grand place and the past ... If you fancy a day out, why not go to Brussels? It has something for everyone and more besides. Plus, you can go by Eurostar like we did and get there in about two and a half hours from London Waterloo, which is nothing compared to how long it takes by train to get anywhere halfway decent in Britain. And if you make an early start (we caught the 7am train), you can be biting into a waffle smothered with maple syrup by about 10.30am (European time). But Brussels has so much to offer besides food, although they do fantastic chips and chocolate to die for. And I do mean die for – you can get practically any type of chocolate here in any shape and size and ... Read the complete review

For years I have heard terrible things about Brussels and how boring it is. But at last I am in a position to have an opinion and can honestly say that it is not as bad as people make out. Okay, so maybe at first Brussels does not stun you with its picturesque setting or take your breath away with overwhelming architecture. Hm, and the weather's not that great at this time of year... BUT! Parts of it are truly worth seeing, such as the Grote Markt, or main market place, for one. It is quaintly picturesque, with cobblestones and an imposing town hall on one side. Of particular interest are the medieval guilds' houses, which front onto the ... Read the complete review
