Advantages: Worth the money

Disadvantages: A bit too touristy and in places tacky

Obviously there's lots to see and do in the nations capital, however alot of things are very 'touristy', full of shops that sell plastic clogs and windmills.
However, if you know where to go you'll be safe. if you're a football or architechture fan I reccomend the tour of Ajax stadium which is an amazing building. Anne Frank's house is another good attraction, put go early as in peak seasons the que is ridiculous. The tours round Amsterdam on the canals are quite good, but make sure you pick the right tour as some are better than others. If your into high culture then a trip to the galleries and museems is well worth it, especially to see the Van Goughs. Other than that just wander around by the cities scenic canals and take in the atmosphere and watch the street performers. Alright but if your going to Holland I reccomend Maastricht over Amsterdam.

Can you believe anybody could be as ridiculous as the person belows comment. I know everything she has said as I have friends from Maastricht, just nobody would really be interested in this information in my opinion on Amsterdamna and most people call the whole of the Netherlands Holland anyway. And they don't role the their tongues, its a noise they make with their throat, a velar fricative noise if you like (I have a knowledge of linguistics), similat to Welsh. This makes me as petty as her below but I actually can't believe how ridiculously irritating she is.

Just to be fussy... Maastricht is officially not Holland. Holland only covers the provinces of North and South Holland. And Maastricht is far away from there. As small as this country (it is called the Netherlands but that does not roll of the tongue as well) is, there is a huge difference between North and South and like in any country the capital is a world of it's own! So not only would I recommend Maastricht, consider Breda, Nijmegen, Utrecht, Amersfoort and any of the other places...you do not have to go to Amsterdam for Canals and Clogs
