Advantages: Lots of things to do! Great views!

Disadvantages: Not enough time to do everything!

I was lucky enough to visit Hong Kong for a few days in May 2006 and although I unfortunately didn't have time to do everything that I would have liked to, I did manage to cram in as much as possible and thoroughly enjoyed my trip. Here are a few of the attractions and sights that I would recommend that you go and see if you are planning a trip to Hong Kong.

1) The Star Ferry.

Not just a form of transport - this amazing ferry has been going between Hong Kong and Kowloon island for over 100 years! It is a very efficient service and ferrys run every 6 - 10 minutes throughout the day. I really loved the Star Ferry and would class it as a tourist attraction in itself. There is a fantastic pace and buzz whilst waiting for one to arrive, but is obviously a normal part of everyday life for the people who use it to travel to work!!

2) The Peak.

In my opinion the views from the top of Victoria Peak in Hong Kong easily rival the views from the top of the Empire State Building in New York. You can see across the harbour and onto Kowloon and the view is amazing - especially at night when the whole of the city is lit up. We reached the top by taxi, but there is a rather famous tram which can also take you up and down the peak. Also at the top of the peak is a small shopping mall where you can make some great purchases.

3) Hong Kong Dolphinwatch.

Many people are probably not aware, by an unusual species of dolphins live in the waters surrounding Hong Kong and we were lucky enough to go on a boat trip to see these amazing - pink(!) - dolphins. This is something that can really be recommended and was an amazing experience.

4) Ocean Park.

I LOVE this place!! Ocean Park is like a theme park, nature reserve and zoo all rolled into one! We had a fantastic day out here and managed to see the giant pandas and go on the (quite frightening) cable cars! Ocean Park is great fun for all of the family and my Husband and I really enjoyed our day here despite being in our 20's!

5) Temples and Buddhas.

Unfortunately we were rather short on time when we visited, so only managed to visit one temple - Man Mo Temple, which is Hong Kong's most visited temple. If you only have time to visit one, then this is a good one to go for! Inside the temple was gorgeous with hundreds of lit incense cones hanging from the ceiling. There was the most amazing atmosphere there and it was great to see inside, especially the 4 plaques describing Man and Mo who have been worshipped here since the 1840's!

I would love to go back to Hong Kong one day and check out the famous Stanley Road night market and also the Giant Buddha on Macau. However I hope that my review has given you a few ideas on things that you can do when you next visit.

Summary: I can't wait to return!

I'm with fizzywizzy, some detailed reviews on some of the sights would be nice.

A nice overview of what there is to see and do - maybe you'll do some individual reviews in more depth - that would be interesting,

Hong Kong is one of my favourite places too - as catsholiday says the Aberdeen Harbour tour is really good, and you have to go across to Kowloon on the famous Star Ferry. I seem to remember going way up the hill on a giant escalator too to visit some of the many temples. Caroline xx
