Advantages: Something for everyone in the gorgeous sun!

Disadvantages: Can be quite expensive especially at peak times

We recently went to Key West as part of a Florida trip and really loved it. Key West is the southern most city in the USA about 160 miles south of Miami. The drive from mainland Florida down over the Florida Keys (islands) is amazing - the scenery is stunning with its beautiful blue seas and sandy shores, and you cross lots of long bridges connecting the islands. Once in Key West you feel like you are in the Bahamas or another Caribbean island - the atmosphere is buzzing and busy with tourists, there are beautiful wooden houses with terraces that are 100 years old or more, there is a huge Cuban influence on the island with cigars for sale on stalls (Cuba is only 100 miles away), you can take a boat trip out and see Madonna's house there, you can watch all the cruise ships coming into the port, you can visit Ernest Hemingway's house, you can sunbathe on the beaches or shop on Duval Street and visit Margaritaville (Jimmy Buffets' famous cafe) - it is a truly gorgeous place with something for everyone. Of course you have to visit the famous Key Lime Pie factories on the island and try the pie - it is fantastic! I would go back to Key West in a heartbeat - you can really escape it all and it is a little paradise!
