Advantages: Relatively cheap and good fun.
Disadvantages: Nothing is for real.
Suspend reality and you'll get the best out of Las Vegas. Treat the place seriously and you'll have a terrible time. Get into the swing of it and Vegas is Blackpool on acid! Planing a trip is easy. You can either go down the package route or plan it yourself. Virgin Holidays are especially good for package deals. However, planning it yourself can give considerable savings and part of the enjoyment of the holiday can be the planning. Virgin Atlantic has the only diect flights from the UK - other airlines tend to go via Los Angeles (handy for a stop-over?) and then it's only a 1 hour flight to Vegas. To get a bargain make sure you book accommodation well in advance. Use the internet for convenience. There are several sites that will find deals for you, just get to them via a search engine. Rooms are amazingly cheap Sunday to Thursday nights - about 45 dollars (& tax) per ROOM in a decent hotel on the Strip. The main street, home of the major casinos. BIG WARNING - at weekends the room rate can be 4 times the midweek rate, especially if you don't book well in advance. Vegas airport is literally on the end of the Strip, so any hotel is only a short taxi ride away. So on to the sights and attractions. As you can guess everythings based round the casinos. Competion is fierce, and casinos put on all sorts of shows and stunts to get your attention and dollars! Not to be missed are: Bellagio Casino - Fountain Show, regualarly throughout the day the lake outside this spectacular hotel comes to life with a musical fountain show. THE BEST and free! Treasure Island Casino - Outdoors staged pirate battle show. New York, New York Casino - A brilliant, terrifying roller coaster. Stay on for a reduced price second ride if you dare! Stratophere Tower - A high tower dominating the skyline. Spectacular views of the strip and the site of the highest roller coaster in the world
. Not for the faint hearted! Friedmont Street - a short taxi ride north of the strip, a covered street with a pretty good light show. These are just a taste of what Vegas offers as attractions. Eating - look for the buffet deals in the hotels - no need to be a guest and with eat as much as you like at about $9 you'll understand who so many americans have weight problems! Shopping - Don't miss Beltz Outlet Centre just south of the strip. Bargains galore. Also, about 30 mile south of Vegas visit Primm Valley, as well as more casinos and another roller coaster, home of a huge designer outlet centre. Hot Tip - if you're going on the roller coaster get a discount voucher printed inside the outlet centre map first. Yes, I love Las Vegas, but even for me it can get a bit much. Break your visit by driving along Route 66 to the Grand Canyon. This natural wonder is the perfect antidote to the false glitz of Vegas. Visit Vegas, but please don't take it too seriously, and you'll love it too!
