I have just returned from visiting my brother in Milan ,it was my forst trip over there and I really did enjoy it. What a lovely city. It is Italy's Cultural ,Industrial and Financial Centre. The capital of the north of Italy [Lombardia}. Also is one of the main fashion centres in the world and you can see why when you walk down the main shopping areas and see all the Designer Shops.
I visited the Catherdral-The Duomo which has more than 2,000 sculptures ,numberless spires and capitals. This is a must to visit when you visit Milan. Theopportunity to go up to the roof where you will see the amazing view of the city, that is breathetaking well worth it. One of the largest churches in the world and even though the Catherdral is very large there is a elegant feel to the building. They started to build it in 1386 by Gian Galeazzo Viscanti and the Duomo was not completed until the early 1800s. It started out as a Gothic Catherdral but over the years the designs went through many changes and variation of styles,so the Duomo is a mishmash of different styles. There are amazing large stain glass windows also there are numerous confessional boxes around the 4 aisles. When we entered the Duomo there you will find a staircase down to the remains of the bapistry there you can see the earlier part of the church which is left. There is a charge for that and you only just see ruins of an Octangel walls and some black and white tiled flooring.
The other place to visit is the Castle Castello Sforzesco which is now is an art gallery..It is a fourteenth Century building reconstructed in 1450 by Francesco Sforza and it was further modified by later generations.
The art collections which you can view are Michelangelo's Last sculpture, The Rondanini Pieta
Andrea Mantegna's Trivulzio Madonna and Leonardo da Vinci's Codex Trivulzianus Manuscript.
The best time to visit Milan is in Spring, early summer or in the autumn.
There are various markets which are held in Milan which can be very interesting to go round, selling local food products and clothing.
Also many types of Restaurants- it is best to try the restaurants away from the main areas where the tourists go it is advised to go where the locals go to because you know it will be good and also good value.
They have a tourist bus which takes you around the main attractions. You can get on and off when ever you wish and seeing the main attractions in your own time. I find these buses very good value and if you are only staying in a city for a short time a quick easy way to view the city.

Summary: A good City break
