Advantages: lots to do!

Disadvantages: will have to rush around if you want to see everything

A holiday in Orlando is not going to be restful. There is so much to do you will have to try and squeeze it all in! You don’t want to be going all the way over there then not do everything.

These are the main attractions in Orlando, I’m sure there are loads more but I don’t want to be sitting here typing all week!!

DISNEYWORLD
Had to put this one first, it’s the first thing you think of when you say Orlando! Disneyworld is split into four main parts;
Magic Kingdom
The original park in Disneyworld. Although adults will definitely enjoy Magic Kingdom most of the rides are definitely for kids. We still go on them all though! Don’t miss the Alien ride which is to your right as you go in the part, best ride in the park. There will be big queues later in the day so go early. Also great for all the family is the Buzz Lightyear ride – right opposite Alien where you get a lazer gun to shoot the aliens!!
Epcot Centre
A technology based park. Most rides in here are educational but it’s made interesting! Also has the World Tour which is positioned around the lake, walk around the world in half a day! Good rides here are Honey I Shrunk the Audience and Test Track (get your fastpass at this one because it’s always busy).
MGM Studios
My favourite of the Disney parks, based on films. Most attractions in this park are shows although there are a couple of rides. Every ride in this park is good so you need to do everything – don’t forget the Tower of Terror though where you freefall 13 floors in a lift!
Animal Kingdom
The latest addition to Disney, full of animals! You can go on a safari here and don’t miss the Lion King show.

WATERPARKS
Disney also have waterparks;
Typhoon Lagoon
Named because of the big lagoon in the middle with a BIG wave machine (not on constantly so you can swim!). Has a beach around the lagoon and a very lo
ng lazy river right around the park which takes ages to get round! Lots of slides for all ages including a family one where everyone can get on at the same time.
Blizzard Beach
The newest waterpark and (I’ve heard) the best in Orlando. I haven’t been to this one but it’s on the top of my list for my next visit. Apparently has the best family ride out of all the water parks. Set in a snowy background but not cold!

WET N WILD
Waterpark on International Drive. Not as good as the Disney waterparks but worth a visit if you have time. Has a big pool in the middle with a wave machine and loads of slides around.

UNIVERSAL STUDIOS
Made up of two parts:
Universal Studios
The rides here are based on movies, Jaws, King Kong, Earthquake. Best show is Terminate 2 on your right as you enter the park. Lots of characters walking around in this park interacting with the public which is great!

Islands of Adventure
Not the best park for kids, lots of fast rides here. Warning: when it warns you that you will get wet on the Popeye ride they aren’t lying, you will get soaked.

SEA WORLD
Home of Shamu the whale! Only a couple of rides in the park, most attractions are shows. Great for animal lovers. Don’t miss feeding time at the dolphin pool where you can buy fish to feed them and then they let them stoke them!

DISCOVERY COVE
Part of Seaworld where you can swim with the Dolphins. Quite expensive (about £150 per person) but they only let a certain number of people in every day so it’s not overcrowded and look after you all day! Lots to do with all sorts of different sea life.

BUSCH GARDENS
A bit of a drive but worth it. Huge zoo with lots of rides mixed in. Watch the snow tigers being fed and ride Montu where you spend more time inverted than you do the right way up! Also lots of little animals which you can pet.

These are th
e main biggest parks but there are lots of other smaller ones which can be just as good:

Kennedy Space Centre
Again, a bit of a drive but good for people who want to be a starship captain one day!

Ripley’s Believe it or Not
We have these over here in the UK but it’s brilliant fun, won’t last you all day though. A good place for an evening visit.

Guinness Book of Records Museum.
Another evening attraction. Interesting things to look at from the Guinness Book of Records.

Tips for all parks:
Buy your tickets before you get to the park. Sometimes there are big queues to get in. I have found the cheapest place to get tickets is direct from the park, they will post to the UK for a small charge and there’s no commission added on!
Always arrive early for any park and go on the busiest rides first.
Either have enough to eat at breakfast to last you all day or take food with you, the food is always more expensive inside the park.
There’s no need to take drink with you, there are water fountains everywhere in America where you can drink cold water. The less you carry the better!
Some rides are wet so watch your cameras!
Most parts have a ‘fastpass’ system operating. These are on the busiest rides and you can get a ticket which tells you what time to go back so you don’t have to queue.
