Because of this position, the areas saw regular floodings until 1956, when the Mori-Torbole tunnel was constructed, providing 500 cubic meters of discharge from the Adige river to the Garda lake in case of flood danger. The tunnel reduced the risk of floodings from once every seventy years to once every two centuries.

I managed to see a lot of Verona even though I only spent one day there last summer. It was mid July and swarming with American tourists (in socks and sandals - arrggghhh) but I still enjoyed myself. Here's my list of things to see / do in this magnificant city : 1. Visit all the Shakespearean sites on offer, I mean sure, they aren't real as it was fiction, but it's still fun to go back home and tell people you saw Romeo and Juliet's houses, and Juliet's tomb (!) 2.
