Advantages: Stunning scenery

Disadvantages: No major ones

The Skyrail connects the Northern Queensland city Cairns with a small nearby town called Kuranda.

I was EXTREMELY nervous about taking the several kilometre trip in a little pod dangling high up in the air. I was well prepared to freak out and not really enjoy it. But, it is fantastic.

As you begin the ascent panoramic views of Cairns and the beaches and ocean open up before you. Then once you get up over the first hill/mountain all you can see is rainforest.
It is a beautiful experience looking down on all the lush greenery. And then out of nowhere a stunning view of a large waterfall far below appears. There are two mini stops between the two settlements, allowing you to photograph waterfalls and take informative boardwalks through the rainforest.

A return ticket will cost you about $60 or for a bit more you can come back via train on the old railway line, which is a lot of fun and offers more wonderful views.

I don't like heights. Or confined spaces. Or open spaces actually..... Anyway, the point is even if you feel a bit wary about it, I still say 'do it' because I had no problem at all once we got going and it truly is beautiful and not something you see everyday.

Summary: Worth every dollar
