beckyX The Inca Trail: ... the peak of the Inca Empire, many steep paved routes were built as a system of highways throughout the empire for the chasqui runners of its ruler (the eponymous Inca) to travel on. If people mention "the" Inca trail, they are referring to the most famous one of all - the paved path leading to the famous Machu Picchu, an Incan city perched on a mountain top high in the Peruvian Andes. Since I was a...

silverbird44 The Inca Trail
... Inca Trail into Dooyoo to see how other people s experiences compared to my own, and was shocked to find that it has not yet been reviewed! Hopefully this review can remedy that, and provide useful information on what turned out to be a unique travel experience. What? The kingdom of the Incas, one of the great ancient kingdoms of South America, sprawled over a vast part of that continent between 1200 and the mid 1400s. Like any large country, infrastructure and communication were crucial for the Inca rulers in maintaining control - a problem exacerbated by the mountainous nature of much of the Inca terrain. To solve this problem, the Incas built a huge network of ...

beckyX LakeTiticaca, Peru
... Titicaca is situated on the border between Peru and Bolivia and is famous for being (arguably) the highest navigable lake in the world (3812m above sea level). Even though that definition may be a tiny bit subjective, (there are higher lakes in the world and some boats can navigate in only a few inches of water), you shouldn t question that claim too loudly it if you visit - this lake is home to the flotilla of the Bolivian Navy (pretty impressive, given that Bolivia is landlocked!). Either which way, the lake is visually very impressive and immense, with a surface area of over 8000 square kilometres. My review is of my travels on the Peruvian side of the lake, sin...

Miler Maracana
... first Brazilian football game was in June 2009 for the return of Adriano, to football, and his home city of Rio de Janeiro. Over 72,000 fans were present to witness Adriano s first game back since taking a break and cancelling his contract with Inter Milan earlier in 2009. The spectacle was unbelieveable. As well as the homecoming of one of the city s mosr famous exports, it was also the day the stadium venues were to be announced by FIFA before kick off. As expected, Rio de Janeiro - in particular the Maracana - was announced to be the venue to host the Word Cup Final in 2014. The place was a party! Banners, balloons and ticker tape flying round, fireworks being let ...
