      A great tourist attraction.

My favourite all time destination is South Africa and when I won flights there I was determined to make the most of it.

      *~*Location*~*
Spier Wine Estate was one of the locations for our wine tour that we booked through Springbok tours and it was a half day tour.
Located at R310 Lynedoch Road Stellenbosch, PO Box 1078, Stellenbosch, 7599, as we were on an organized tour we left from our hotel the Table Bay and visited 3 wine estates in Paarl and Stellenbosch before finally finishing at the Spier Wine Estate which is located on the R310 there are many pre-arranged tours to this location.

Spier Wine Estate is in the heart of South Africa's Cape Winelands and differs to many of the other wine estates that you come across as it has a lot of attractions that would keep you entertained for the full day.

The original Manor House, slave bell and oldest wine cellar remain from 1692 and the Wine Centre can be found in the original Dutch barn from 1750.

When we arrived at the wine estate we were directed through the shop which houses more than 175 local wines and if you have ever been fortunate to visit this area then you will know that wine is really good value in South Africa and as it is so low in price you can buy lots of bottles to sample during your stay.

Within the wine centre you will find further information on Spier's Estate and sample their award winning wines.

      *~*The Wines*~*

Private Collection, Vintage, Colours and the Discover Collection are some of the ranges that are available to purchase and offer a tantalizing variety of whites such as a chardonnay, chenin blanc, sauvignon blanc and many more. Plenty of red wines are on offer and this was where I discovered my love for the South African Shiraz.

We were able to sample 5 wines from Spier's Discover and Classic ranges which you will find in many local supermarkets in the UK and despite them not being our favourite out of the tour they are still great wines known as the Spier Tasting and this is at a cost of R10.00 per person between 10am and 4.30pm.

If you decide to visit Spier independently then you can pre-book their Select Tasting which will provide an introduction to the specifics of wine tasting and appreciation.
Our visit was for approximately 2 hours and we did manage to see a small bit of Spier and from what we saw it was more commercialized compared with other wine estates in the area.

Once we had sampled the wine and purchased a few bottles to take back to our hotel we decided to wander around as we still had a bit of time before the tour would be taking us back to our hotel.
Just to the left of the entrance of the wine manor house is the Cheetah Outreach Programme and here you will see the Cheetahs that have been raised via their programme and watch them in a relaxed environment, a small charge is applicable to enter but this goes towards the outreach programme and it really is a small cost to pay for a great experience.

The entry fee also allows you to wander in to see the protected birds of prey making people aware of the birds and how the act among their prey and as experts display their falconry techniques you can really enjoy the way that the birds fly and hunt their prey in a magnificent short show.

      *~*Final Thought*~*
I really wish that I had more time here as there was so much more to see but this is definitely one wine estate that offers more than the others.
The wine tasting although it was relaxed it was extremely informal and it was a case of selecting which win you wanted to try and then you had a small taste there was not really too much insight to the wine and no guidance as to what you would drink this wine with, which I felt was a little disappointing.

It was nice that there are other things at the estate to sample as this gave it a more family event and there were a lot of children visiting and enjoying the shows with the birds and being allowed to get up close and personal with the Cheetahs.
