Advantages: It's great fun

Disadvantages: It's a long way to go for the 'experience'

I have been to Las Vegas once in my life, and that was a couple of years ago, on a pilgrimage to go to places involved in the life of Elvis Presley. Because of this I stayed at the Las Vegas Hilton Casino & Hotel, which is a little off of the Las Vegas Strip, but is the venue where Elvis played so many concerts in the 1970s.

At the same time I am a Star Trek fan, as many dooyoo members are aware from reading my reviews on the subject. Imagine then my surprise when I found that right in my hotel was an attraction known as 'Star Trek: The Experience'.

Sadly I had no money as I had spent it all already, and this was the last stop on my holiday. Entry to the 'experience' costs over $40, and all I had was $15. I therefore decided to try my luck in the casino and settled myself at a video poker machine.

Thirty minutes later, believe it or not, I had $100 in my pocket, such was my luck that day, so guess where I headed? That's right - THE STAR TREK EXPERIENCE. So what did I get for my money?

Well, for $42.99 I got to see the 'History Of The Future Museum', which is a collection of props and costumes set out as if it was a real museum. I also got to go into 2 'attractions', or what I always think of as 'rides'. One was the 'Klingon Encounter' and the other was 'Borg Invasion 4D'. These 'rides' are a kind of role-play where the visitor is put through experiences designed to convince them that they really are involved in Klingon and Borg attacks. These are great fun and well worth the money. Each lasts about 20 minutes, but felt much shorter as the time seemed to pass so quickly.

Also at the 'experience' are shops where of course you can buy lots of Trek merchandise, and also a bar decked out like 'Quarks Bar' in the 'Deep Space Nine' TV show.

All in all the Star Trek Experience is worth the cash if you are a Star Trek fan and ever find yourself in Vegas. I wouldn't however say that it is worth the airfare over to the States just for the pleasure however.

Summary: Experience a trek of the stars
