The Grand Canyon is located in northern Arizona and stretches for 277 miles and has been carved away over millions of years by the Colorado River. *Cost: when we visited America we purchased an Annual National Parks Pass which enabled us to visit any one of the 100+ parks in America. This was only $80 dollars for a family of four. *What to do there: there are planes and helicopters available which enable you to get an over view of the whole width and depth of the canyon at some of it's most spectacular points. ***Background*** We had explored the North Rim of the Canyon the previous day and ended up staying in Page for the night, and having a quick look at Lake Powell before making our way down Route 89 towards Cameron and on to the South Rim area. This area is split into two main sections of Desert View and the Grand Canyon Village where it is busiest with accommodation being available and many trail paths starting. The distance across the canyon averages at around 10 miles but travelling from North Rim to South Rim is a slightly longer trip, as we found out driving the 215-mile journey.
