Advantages: Awesome architecture and history.

Disadvantages: Busy and a tad over restored.

On Arrival in Beijing the Forbidden city is a must see location, i do not contest with this. The history and legacy contained within the walls of this historic location is mind blowing, i am however, not here to lecture on the history. i would advise visiting during spring or autumn because during the summer Beijing is intensely Hot and frequently wet, whilst during the winter months temperatures venture below zero. The price for entry is reasonable, it used to be execution, however 40 yuan is suffice nowadays.
The architecture is fabulous, the imposing Hall of Supreme Harmony is the largest structure and historically most important. It was built during the 15th century and was restored, along with just about everything else within the walls during the 17th century.
unfortunately this is where my compliments end. The Forbidden City was extremely busy when i visited, to the extent the experience was a tedious one. The hoards of people were, on the whole rude and impatient, this made attempting to look inside the halls a near impossible task. People were physically pushing me out of the way, hitting my camera in a desperate attempt to get a few feet closer to the front. The whole feel of the site was also quite fake and modern, the newly painted buildings did not help.
To conclude, in terms of visiting the Forbidden City, i believe i was unlucky and i would certainly advise visiting if you find yourself in Beijing, i did however find many other more enjoyable activities to partake in.

Summary: Worth a visit but there are better things to see in the great city of Beijing.

I loved it here - being 6'5" I had no trouble in getting a clear view inside the halls.

And what about the nephew of the last emporer, didn't you meet him? He looks like a chinese elvis.

The crowds added to the furvore.

This was one of the places I enjoyed most in Beijing. The crowds are absolutely unbelievable and you will never ever get the purfect shot because there will always be others in shot view.
