Now this is not a major tourist attraction but I would recommend it to anyone because it's a very pretty little shopping mall with loads of shops, restaurants and cafes built onto a pier that overlooks a real fishing harbour. I actually stayed in a hotle in Wall Street when I was in New York (see my Holiday Inn review). I reallt liked the financial district for lots of different reasons. My hotel was in very easy walking distance of the World Trade Centre, the Stock Exchange and Battery Park and so the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island were very easy to reach. Consequently, there are lots of major tourist attractions within very easy reach. The district is quiet at the weekends and during the evening so it is quite nice to be able to retreat a little from the total mayhem that is the rest of New York. There is a strange mix of old and new down Wall Street way and nothing shows it up more than the classic image of Trinity Church dwarfed by skyscrapers. One of the oldest parts of Manhattan it's easy to forget just how much history there is down this end of the island. The actual street was originally the wall that kept the Alogonquian Indians out of Manhattan. Now it is inhabited by much more dangerous characters - the Stock Exchange traders.
